Boys volleyball: Regional titles for Libertyville, Carmel

Jack Stevens pounded 14 kills, Brendan Cook added 9 kills and 3 blocks, and Libertyville's boys volleyball team defeated Boylan Catholic 25-17, 25-18 to win the Rockford Auburn regional championship on Wednesday night.

Carter Schaffnit dished out 25 assists and had 5 digs for the top-seeded Wildcats (32-5), who advance to the Grant sectional and will play Lake Forest in Friday's 5:30 p.m. semifinal.

It was the second regional title in a row for Libertyville.

Stevens also had 7 digs and 1 ace. Libertyville's other contributors included Ryan Winiger (8 digs, 2 assists, 2 aces), Colin Hawkinson (4 kills, 6 digs), Zach Ford (2 kills) and Mark Demaree (1 kill, 3 blocks).

Carmel d. Stevenson: At Lakes, the sixth-seeded Corsairs rallied for a 20-25, 25-22, 25-22 win in the regional final.

Leo Chen had 14 kills for No. 3 Stevenson (27-10). The Patriots also got 8 kills from Matt Cliffer and seven from Thomas Finn. Will Sorenson dished out 30 assists and served 3 aces.

Carmel advances to the Grant sectional and will play No. 2 Barrington in a semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Lake Forest d. Warren: At Warren, the fourth-seeded Scouts captured the regional title with a 25-23, 25-22 win over the fifth-seeded Blue Devils.
