Baseball: St. Charles North, Huntley regional winners

St. Charles North opened the baseball postseason with a 16-1 win over Glenbard North Wednesday at the Class 4A Hoffman Estates regional.

Patrick Bellock had 3 RBI for the North Stars (24-6-1) while Erik Larson (2 hits, RBI), Ryan Thiese (2 RBI), Tommy Nelsen (2 RBI) and Nick DeMarco (2 RBI) also contributed to the offense.

Steve Hamer pitched 3 innings for the win allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks.

The North Stars will play for the regional title on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of Thursday's game between Lake Park and Geneva.

Huntley 10, Belvidere North 0: At the Class 4A Belvidere North regional, Kyle Morgan didn't allow a hit over 3⅔ innings as the Red Raiders (28-6) advanced to Saturday's 2:30 p.m. championship game against the winner of Thursday's game between Harlem and Hampshire. In Wednesday's win, Hunter Rumachik (2 hits, 2B), AJ Henkle (2B, 2 RBI), Zach Model (2 hits, RBI), Jason Peters (2 hits) and Joey Petryniec (2 RBI) led the Huntley offense.

Barrington 8, CL South 7: The defending Class 4A champion Gators came up short in this Class 4A CLS regional semifinal. Blake Kuffel (2 RBI), Steven Siavelis (2 hits, 2 RBI), Kyle Hetherington (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Harrison Hinz (2B) led Crystal Lake South.

Kaneland 10, Wheaton Academy 0: Luke Gomes had 3 hits with a triple and 2 RBI to lead the Knights (20-8) to a win in their own Class 3A regional. Robbie Dudzinski added 2 RBI and Nik Panico had a triple and 2 RBI for Kaneland. Alex Buchanan was the winning pitcher, going 4⅔ innings allowing 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Kaneland will play on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the regional title against the winner of Thursday's game between Aurora Central Catholic and St. Francis.

York 2, Streamwood 0: The Sabres (13-18) were limited to 2 hits in this loss at the Class 4A Elk Grove regional.
