Boys volleyball: Postseason wins for Hersey, Palatine

Mid-Suburban East boys volleyball champion Hersey had no trouble advancing to the regional final round of the postseason.

The second-seeded Huskies handled regional host Highland Park 25-17, 26-24 on Tuesday, putting them into Wednesday's championship matchup against Maine South, which advanced with a three-set victory over Niles West.

Jacob Mailloux (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Joe Nugent (6 kills, 3 blocks) came up big at the net for the Huskies. Jakub Migus generated 23 setting assists and Christian Hong had a team-best 12 digs.

Hersey (29-8) and the 10th-seeded Hawks will vie for a spot in Friday's Glenbrook South sectional semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

at Glenbrook North: Fifth-seeded Palatine advanced to the regional championship round after passing a tough test from No. 12 Wheeling, with the Pirates prevailing 22-25, 25-15, 25-14.

Palatine will meet No. 4 Glenbrook North in Wednesday's 6 p.m. regional final; the Spartans advanced by topping No. 13 St. Viator 25-21, 25-19.

Wheeling's Jared Moser had another big hitting performance, finished 20-for-20 on the attack with 12 kills. The Wildcats (22-15) also got big efforts from Jon Janowski (6 kills, 3 blocks, 12 digs), Jan Baranowski (4 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs) and setter Jared Urueta (81-for-84, 24 assists).

at Evanston: The season ended for No. 11 seed Buffalo Grove with a 25-22, 25-14 loss to No. 6 seed Loyola.

The Bison got a huge performance from Brian Franz (10 kills, 12 digs, 2 blocks) and big contributions from Ethan Soifer (5 kills), Clark Haikal (4 kills, 2 blocks), Teddy Patlak (2 kills, 2 blocks) and Michael Lohse (13 digs).

The Ramblers advance to a Wednesday regional final against No. 3 Deerfield.

at Lake Zurich: MSL champion Barrington bounced its first postseason opponent, Rockton Hononegah, 25-11, 25-16. The top-seeded Broncos meet up with Vernon Hills for the regional title at 6 p.m. Wednesday; the Cougars eliminated Lake Zurich 25-23, 25-19.

at Lake Park: The regional host Lancers stopped Rolling Meadows' postseason run with a 25-14, 25-20 decision.

Lake Park, the No. 2 seed in the Addison Trail sectional, meets Glenbard East in Wednesday's regional final.

at Niles North: Maine West kept its season alive by handling Glenbrook South 25-16, 25-19. The ninth-seeded Warriors advance to a Wednesday regional final against No. 1 seed New Trier, which topped Maine East in two sets.
