Baseball: Marmion, South Elgin open regionals with wins

Bryce Burton's double in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Mitch Nieweglowski with the eventual game-winning run Tuesday as Marmion edged Schaumburg 2-1 in the opening round of the Class 4A St. Charles East baseball regional.

The Cadets (14-18) will take on Batavia Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Batavia in the semifinals.

Burton also added a triple in the win while Dillion Di Iorio had a double for the Cadets.

Eric Lundell was the winning pitcher in relief.

South Elgin 7, West Chicago 0: Nate Gomez had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI and Logan Romasanta added 2 RBI to lead South Elgin (15-8-1) to a win in the opening round of the Class 4A St. Charles East regional. The Storm will play host SCE at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Charles in the semifinals. Nick Poblocki went 5 innings in Tuesday's win for South Elgin, allowing 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk.

Conant 4, Bartlett 3: Jacob Chowanec, Andrew Fehr and Matt Angelone had RBI for Bartlett (11-19), which had its season ended in the opening round of the Class 4A Willowbrook regional.
