Softball: Three wins means No. 200 for Antioch's Rocco

Antioch softball coach Anthony Rocco entered Saturday 3 wins shy of 200 for his career.

He went 3-for-3.

Playing its third game of the day, Antioch beat Class 1A power Earlville 11-1 in six innings at Bandits Stadium in Rosemont on Saturday night.

Rocco, whose Sequoits improved to 24-6, is in his seventh season at Antioch. He coached two seasons at Ridgewood.

Against Earlville, Abby Pyburn went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, and Ashlyn Sundell was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored. The Sequoits' other offensive contributors included Deighton Butenschoen (2-for-3, double, 3 RBI), Megan Lawrence (2-for-4, triple), Kaylee Schreiner (double, 3 RBI) and Piper Foote (2 RBI). Jerianne Bonaguidi pitched all 6 innings for the win, allowing 5 hits, striking out three and walking two.

Earlier in the day, Antioch swept a nonconference doubleheader from host Niles North, winning 19-2 in the opener and 11-1 in the second game.

In Game 1, Lawrence's 3-run homer and Butenschoen's 2-run shot highlighted an 8-run first inning. Antioch got multiple hits from Schreiner (2-for-3, RBI), Pyburn (2-for-3, double, RBI), Katie Sorenson (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Kayla Burkhart (2-for-4, RBI) and Avery Malicki (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI).

In Game 2, Sequoits call-up Faith Miller hit a 3-run home run, walked twice, stole a base and finished 2-for-2. Freshman Hailey Webb was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Mollie Wagner had a double and an RBI. Ashley Hoerning pitched 4⅔ innings for the win.

Marengo, 8, Libertyville 6: Hannah Hiscox homered and drove in 2 runs for the Wildcats in their nonconference loss to the defending Class 3A state champions.

Chloe Bleck was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Libertyville (23-7).

Fenwick 13, Vernon Hills 7: The Friars scored 7 runs in the top of the 10th to win the nonconference game.

Delaney Bowen went 4-for-5 with a double for Vernon Hills, which also got a pair of hits each from Elisa Handler (double) and Madison Johnson (2 doubles). Nicole Pieper also had a double for the Cougars.

Johnsburg 11, Wauconda 10: Down 10-1 entering the bottom of the third, the Skyhawks rallied for the nonconference win.

Kayla Serio was 3-for-3 with a double, 2 walks and 2 RBI for Wauconda, while Riley Aldrich (2 RBI) and Hannah Miller were both 2-for-3. Rhiannon Himmelmann also doubled for the Bulldogs.
