Chisholm powers Kane County Cougars to 8-4 victory

PEORIA - Jasrado Chisholm left the yard two times for the Kane County Cougars in an 8-4 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday night at Dozer Park.

Chisholm began his big night with a one-out solo home run in the top of the first inning. Yan Sanchez added to the Cougars first inning rally with an RBI double, making it 2-0 Cougars. Eudy Ramos capped the inning with a two-run scoring single. Tim Susnara led off the top of the fourth inning with a double. The Cougars stretched their lead to 5-0 on Gabriel Maciel's RBI single, scoring Susnara. Maciel singled with two outs in the sixth inning, bringing Chisholm back to the plate. The Cougars' shortstop powered his second homer of the night to center field, giving the Cougars a 6-0 cushion.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Chiefs (21-18) slashed into the Cougars advantage. After a single and a double started the inning, Bryce Denton knocked in a run with an RBI single. The next batter, Nick Plummer, grounded into a force out to plate a run and pull the Chiefs within four runs. The Cougars collected an insurance run in the eighth on Chisholm's RBI single. Plummer answered with a two-run double in the bottom half of the inning to trim the Cougar lead to 8-4, but that's the closest the Chiefs would come.

Brian Shaffer (2-2) earned his third quality start of the year, twirling six innings of two-run ball, scattering six hits and striking out six batters. Matt Brill surrendered two runs in two innings. Jordan Watson shut the door in the ninth, recording a strike out and a walk.

Johan Oviedo (1-4) took the loss. Oviedo recorded just two outs, allowing four Cougar runs on two hits and two walks. C.J. Saylor gave up Chisholm's second homer, but nothing else in 2.1 innings of relief. Alex Fagalde surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings. Fabian Blanco tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Cougars close the three-game series with Peoria on Sunday. The Cougars send Jhoan Duran (1-0, 4.15) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
