Softball: Fremd right at home in Rosemont

Apparently, Fremd's softball team doesn't enjoy spending too much time at the Bandits Stadium in Rosemont.

Five innings seems to suit the Vikings just fine.

For the second time in three weeks, coach Josh Teschner took his club to the professional softball venue and watched his team record a 10-run rule, 5-inning victory.

This time, it was a 12-0 triumph over Crystal Lake Central in the Varsity Jamboree on Friday night.

A few weeks back, it was an 11-1 Mid-Suburban West win over Conant.

In the Conant game, Fremd senior Jess Mazur hit the longest ball of the game when she doubled off the left field fence in the first inning.

Mazur gave quite an encore, this time driving the ball over that same left field fence for a 3-run homer that highlighted the Vikings' 8-run third inning. It was her 32nd career homer and 14th this season.

Although, she didn't hit one over the fence, Vikings leadoff batter Hannah Ban (3-for-3, 4 runs, RBI) also got credit for a home run. The senior started the bottom of the first with an inside-the-park homer to right field.

Other multiple hitters for Fremd (18-10) were Lexi D'Ambrosio (3-for-4, RBI, 1 run) and Kaylee Goluch (3-fo-r-3, 2 runs, RBI).

Senior Nikki Kehoe (9-4) earned the win, striking out four and giving up 4 hits over the first four innings while Mazur came in and struck out the side in the top of the fifth.

Glenbrook North 10, Wheeling 0 (5 inn.): Senior Olivia Walker went 2-for-2 for visiting Wheeling (0-20) while Nikki Ferraro, Emily LaCaeyse and Elena Falkiner each had 1 hit in the nonconference game.

Rolling Meadows 12, Highland Park 0 (5 inn.): Junior Sara Benner (2-for-3, 2 RBI) connected for her single-school record 14th home run and also broke her own single-season RBI record with her 48th as the host Mustangs (11-15) won the nonconference game. Classmate Kendra Herring three the first three innings to earn the win.

Benner's 2-out 2-run blast to right center in the second inning gave RM a 6-0 cushion.

Also breaking into the multiple hits category for RM were Sam Allen (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Parker Cavanaugh (2-for-3, 2 doubles, RBI) and Emily Schmidt (2-for-3, 3 RBI, double). Stephanie Thompson and Mallory King also had doubles for the Mustangs.

Libertyville 5, Prospect 1: Senior third baseman Alyssa Cacini (2-for-3) broke the single-season school record for home runs when she belted her 13th in the top of the seventh inning. It was also her school-record 27th career blast.

Catcher Jackie Orel's double was the only other hit for visiting Prospect (19-8).

Palatine 21, Wauconda 0 (5 inn.): Junior center fielder Grace Huff (3-for-4) belted her tenth homer of the season as the visiting Pirates (24-5) wrapped up their regular season with the nonconference win.

Senior Sarah Grossman (18-2) went the first three innings, giving up no hits while Rhiann Dick worked the final two to compete the shutout.

Emily Parrott went 2-for-3 with a double for Palatine. Dick, Parrott, Amanda Stanczuk, Maddie Craver and Kaitlyn Reed also had doubles for the Pirates.

Buffalo Grove 16 New Trier 4: Freshman Kylie Mainville earned the win and sophomore Megan Fontanetta finished off the combined 6-hitter for visiting Buffalo Grove (7-16). Fontanetta also had 3 RBI with a triple and 2 doubles.
