Softball: Elk Grove gets share of East title

Put another Mid-Suburban League division crown - No. 20, to be exact - on Ken Grams' resume.

This time, with one of his youngest teams, the hall of fame Elk Grove softball coach of 38 seasons, shared the crown with Hersey and Prospect after his Grenadiers posted a 5-4 win at Buffalo Grove on Wednesday.

Sophomore catcher Katia Pendowski (2-for-3, 3 RBI) belted a home run for the Grens, who finished at 11-5 in the East, the same record as Hersey and Prospect.

Other top hitters for EG (15-12) were freshman A.J. Trausch (2-for-4), freshman Morgan Leach (2-for-4) and sophomore Lauren Clausen (2-for-4), who earned the win. Clausen raised her record to 10-5 with a 5-hitter and 10 strikeouts as the Grens rallied for 3 runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 4-2 deficit.

Olivia Morini went 2-for-4 while Sam Hansen (double) and Bailey Williams each had 2 RBI for the Bison (6-16, 4-12).

Rolling Meadows 17, Wheeling 4 (5 inn.): Sam Allen (2-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI, double), Caroline Slowik (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 runs, double) and Kendra Herring (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs, double) led the offense for Rolling Meadows in its final MSL East game for the season. Sara Benner and Kelsie Campbell also doubled for the Mustangs (10-16, 5-11).

Elise Kowalski struck out seven as the winning pitcher.

Emily LaCaeyse (2-for-2, RBI, run) and Olivia Walker (2-for-3, 1 run) led Wheeling (0-19, 0-16).

Maine West 9, De La Salle 2: Senior Katelyn Aragon, junior Mayria Adams, sophomore Amanda Byrne and senior Allison Pearson each had double for the host Warriors (15-8). Sophomore Jessica Steingard earned the win.
