Softball: Dundee-Crown's Ruggles 2-hits Jacobs
Senior Sydney Ruggles fired a 2-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks and added 2 hits and an RBI from the plate Friday as Dundee-Crown defeated Jacobs 3-1 in Fox Valley Conference softball action.
Hannah Gestrich and Claire Weeks added 2 hits each for the Chargers (16-10).
Delaney Garden and Gaby Silva had the only hits for Jacobs (13-11-1). Katie Armstrong suffered the loss in the circle.
Huntley 12, Prairie Ridge 4: Huntley closed in on another FVC championship as Tiffany Giese (2B, RBI), Autumn Kasal (2 HRs, 2B, 6 RBI), Grace Kutz (2B, 3B, HR, 2 RBI) and Taylor Pacana (2 doubles) each had 3 hits. Mallory Reicher added 2 hits with a double and an RBI for the Red Raiders (22-5, 11-1). Bri Bower picked up the win, going 5 innings and allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and a walk.
Batavia 20, Larkin 3: Cassidy Carby had 4 hits including 3 homers and 7 RBI to lead the Bulldogs to this Upstate Eight River win. Adding to the offense for Batavia were Jaelen Lisberg (3B), Aly Bondurant (2 hits, RBI), Kaylan Waldron (2 hits, RBI), Sami Wicks (HR), Allsion Bahlmann (4 hits, 2 HRs, 3 RBI) and Madi Runge (2 RBI). Noelle Chaney earned the win, striking out 13. Haley Bohne had a double and a home run for Larkin and Liz Bowman added 2 hits.
Burlington Central 9, Hinsdale South 1: Julia Barnes had 4 hits and an RBI at the plate and allowed just 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks from the circle to lead the Rockets (14-5) to a win in the opening round of the IC Catholic tournament. Danielle Yurgil added 4 hits with a double and 3 RBI for BC while Lindsay Jamrozek (2 hits, RBI), Abby Sanders (2B), Peyton Curtis (3 hits, 3B, RBI) and Kate Snow (2B, RBI) also contributed. The Rockets will play Chicago Christian in Saturday morning's semifinals.
Chicago Christian 1, ACC 0: Despite a 1-hitter with 20 strikeouts from Dani Brown, the Chargers (13-14) fell at the IC Catholic tournament. Ava Wilkins had 3 hits for Aurora Central and Sammy Martinez added a double.
Kaneland 12, LaSalle-Peru 1: Rose Roach had 2 hits with a home run while Lillie Lindgren and Hailey Roach added 2 hits each for Kaneland in its Northern Illinois Big XII crossover win. Emilee Erickson earned the pitching win, going 5 innings and allowing 5 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Cary-Grove 27, St. Edward 9: At the Fenton tournament, Jazz Flashing had 5 hits with a double, 2 home runs and 4 RBI to lead the Trojans (13-7) to the win. Also contributing for C-G were Kelly Johnson (3 hits, HR, 4 RBI), Katy Wierczorek (2B, 3B, 3 RBI), Emma Hill (4 hits, 3 doubles, 4 RBI), Frankie Cruz (4 hits, 2 doubles, HR, 5 RBI) and Alexis German (3 hits, 2 RBI). Ashley Miller had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Jessy Kramp added 2 hits and 3 RBI for St. Edward (10-12).
