Girls water polo: Top two seeds advance at Schaumburg

Top-seeded Conant advanced to a semifinal appearance in the Schaumburg girls water polo sectional by defeating St. Viator 10-5 in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Olivia Olszewski led the way for the Cougars with 5 goals, and Nia Tsoulos had 2 along with 6 ejections drawn.

The next opponent for the Mid-Suburban League champs, who improved to 27-4, will be No. 5 seed Fremd (14-16), which advanced by edging No. 4 seed Prospect 8-7.

The No. 2 seed at Schaumburg, Hersey (25-4), advanced with a 9-4 victory over the seventh-seeded Saxons.

Next up for the MSL East champs is a semifinal against Barrington (17-8). The third-seeded Fillies edged No. 6 seed Elk Grove 6-5 for a second straight 1-goal decision in their favor in the last quarterfinal of the day at Schaumburg.

• In the Buffalo Grove sectional, the third-seeded host Bison came up with a 7-1 decision against sixth-seeded Palatine. Next for BG is a Friday semifinal matchup against No. 2 seed Mundelein.

• In the Glenbrook South sectional, Maine West was eliminated by Glenbrook North 14-5.
