Baseball: St. Charles North blanks Larkin

The St. Charles North baseball team defeated Larkin in 5 innings Thursday 11-0 in Upstate Eight River action.

On 15 hits, Lucas Heflen (2-for-3, 2B) and Egon Hein (2-for-3, 2B) led the way with 3 RBI each. Justin Dunne, Steve Hamer and Michael Gattuso (2B) also had 2 hits for North (20-2-1, 14-1-1). Erik Larson shut down the Royals (7-14, 4-12) on the mound, allowing 3 hits and 1 walk on 3 strikeouts.

St. Charles East 9, Streamwood 1: Kyle Hayes (RBI) doubled twice for the Saints (17-8-1, 15-4), who outhit the Sabres (10-14, 5-13) 10-2 in a UEC River win. John Dellostritto cranked out 3 hits while Cole Conn (2-for-4) provided a double and 4 RBI. Jeremy Cox tossed struck out 5 on 55 pitches in 5 innings of work.

Geneva 10, Elgin 0: The Vikings (15-10-1, 12-5-1) got 3 hits, a double and a triple from Ian Hanson in a win over the Maroons (6-21, 3-16). Dominic Guido went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Cullen Geary hit a double. Tyler Venditti shutdown the Maroons, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk on 4 strikeouts.

South Elgin 8, West Chicago 3: The Storm (10-7-1, 8-5) got a UEC Valley win thanks to 10 hits, 3 coming from Ben Hetelle, who had 2 RBI and a double. Logan Romasanta (2 RBI) and Garrett Wano also had 2 hits each. Nick Poblocki's 6-inning win consisted of 3 runs, 4 hits, 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Huntley 9, CL South 2: Kyle Morgan allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5⅓ innings to help the Red Raiders (22-5, 14-4) to a Fox Valley Conference win over the Gators (10-13-1, 7-11). Kamrin Hoffmann (3-for-4, 2B) had 3 RBI and Jordan Goldstein (2-for-2) had 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Joey Petryniec (2-for-3, RBI) tripled and Matt Rodriguez (2 RBI) had 2 hits. Blake Kuffel was South's only bright spot with 2 hits.

Jacobs 6, McHenry 5: The Golden Eagles (15-9-1, 11-6) saved their best for last as a 3-run fifth tied the game and Daniel Klein's sixth-inning single to left scored the winning run. Matt Camp (W, 2 IP), who gave up no hits or runs in relief, doubled while Bryce Vincent (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Cory Dennison (2 hits, 1 RBI) led Jacobs' offense.

Hampshire 11, Cary-Grove 1: The Whip-Purs (12-17, 5-13) used a 6-run first to down the Trojans (14-10-1, 9-9) in FVC action. Matthew Wians (2-for-3, 3 RBI) doubled and tripled while Nicholas Sladek (RBI), Matthew Jachec (2B, 2 RBI), Trevor Laffin (2B, RBI) and Zachary Golden (2 RBI) each had 2 hits. The Trojans got 2 hits from Kyle Ives but were stymied by Hampshire pitcher Carlos Punete, who allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Dundee-Crown 7, Marengo 0: In nonconference action, the Chargers (5-21) sprayed 13 hits as Erik Hedmark went 3-for-4 with 3 doubles and 2 RBI. Jack Waldron, Joey Marczyk (RBI) and Justin Colon (2 RBI) each had 2 knocks. Dylan Palmtier pitched a complete-game 2-hit shutout with just 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.

Burlington Central 8, Johnsburg 2: In Kishwaukee River action, Central (17-9, 12-3) scattered 11 hits and used a 5-spot in the fifth to get by the Skyhawks. Zach Schutta (2B), Colton Wallace (2B, RBI), Caden Scott and Ryan Knowlton (2B, RBI) each had 2 hits while Kyle Hresil (5H, 2R, 1ER, 4K, 1 BB) pitched 5 innings for the win.

Kaneland 7, Morris 2: Nik Panico had the game's only extra base hit, a double during a NIB XII win for the Knights (16-8, 8-4). Panico (RBI) and Robbie Dudzinski (3 RBI) each had 2 hits while a 4-run fifth helped pitcher Alex Buchanan (4K, 3 BBs), who allowed 5 hits in 6 innings, to grab a win.

Marmion 12, St. Francis 4: Bryce Burton hit 2 doubles and finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI to help the Cadets (12-15, 8-7) to a Chicago Catholic Blue victory. Dillion Di Iorio (3-for-3, 2 RBI) tripled while Brandon McPherson, Adam Auchstetter each mustered 2 hits and 2 RBI. Nick Talarico notched a win in 5 innings, throwing 77 pitches and allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits, 4 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Aurora Christian 5, Somonauk 3: The Eagles improved to 23-2 overall as Erik Hernandez (3 runs), MJ Stavola and Sam Tickle (3 RBI) all had 2 hits each. Pitching all 7 innings, Hernandez got the win, allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Harvest Christian 16, IMSA 0: The Lions (17-6, 14-2) pounded out 14 runs on 16 hits in Northeastern Athletic action as Jack Nohava went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and 3 RBI. Drew Lewis (2B) also had 3 hits and 3 RBI and Joey Pepper (2 RBI), Grant Young (3B) and Brock Wilken (2 doubles, 2 RBI) each had 2 hits. Wilken got a 2-inning win on the mound, which included no hits, 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.

ACC 10, Walther Christian 0: The Chargers (17-10, 7-8) got a Metro Suburban win behind 2 hits each from Chris Cartwright (RBI) and Mac Doherty (RBI). Alex Rakas had 1 hit and 2 RBI while Kyle Czerak (RBI) doubled the game's only extra base hit. In 6 innings, Matt Jeter threw for the win, allowing just 3 hits on 4 strikeouts and 2 walks.

IC Catholic 12, St. Edward 2: In this Metro Suburban loss, Jack Olson (2-for-3) had a double and a triple for the Green Wave (7-22, 3-14). Matthew Schimbke had 2 RBI.
