Girls soccer: Stevenson, Carmel produce scoreless draw
Krissy Hill volleyed home the equalizer in the second half as Stevenson's girls soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw with Carmel Catholic on Wednesday in nonconference play.
Brianna VanZanten earned the assist on Hill's goal for Stevenson (9-5-3). Coach PepeJon Chavez said his Patriots held off a strong Carmel attack with great defending by senior captain Lauren Micek and freshman Gabi Nyc. Junior Hannah Lapeire managed the middle, he added. The junior Hill slammed in a ball after senior captain VaZanten beat a player in the box off a long pass from Lapeire to hit a shot that was deflected by the keeper.
Stevenson goalie Zoe Friedman made 8 saves.
Zion-Benton 2, Grant 1: The Zee-Bees' 2-1 lead at halftime held up in the nonconference that featured 30-minute halves due to a rain delay.
Grant's Nicole Stigler scored in the first half off an assist from Jackie Hernandez.
Loyola 2, Lakes 1: Rylie Matchett scored the Eagles' lone goal in their nonconference loss.
Hannah Morway had the assist for Lakes (5-10). Eagles goalies Molly Bakrins and Taylor Primack each had 7 saves.
Grayslake North 2, Grayslake Central 1: Lauren Davis scored both goals for the Knights, both in the first half of the Northern Lake County match.
Nicole Lacke earned the assist on Davis' second goal.
