Baseball: Richardson, Libertyville stay in shutout mode
Danny Richardson threw 2-hit baseball over 6 innings, and visiting Libertyville made it 3 shutouts over Lake Zurich in as many days, winning 6-0 in North Suburban Conference action on Wednesday.
Marco Scopacasa completed the combined 2-hitter, striking out two in the seventh, as the Wildcats improved to 20-8 and an NSC-best 15-3. Richardson, a senior lefty, struck out nine walked four.
Offensively for Libertyville, Ben Arnold had a 2-run triple, Garrison Bennett was 2-for-3 with a double, and Micah Holzwarth had a double and an RBI.
Lake Zurich fell to 10-13 and 9-9 in the NSC.
Mundelein 6, Lake Forest 2: The visiting Mustangs averted a three-game sweep in the North Suburban series, as Ryan Patel went 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI.
Mundelein (19-7, 13-5) also got a double and 2 RBI from Ben Holly. Rahul Champaneri pitched 6 innings for the win, striking out nine, walking two and allowing 6 hits.
Caleb Durbin was 2-for-4 for Lake Forest (9-9 NSC), and Drew Golde had a double and an RBI.
Stevenson 12, Waukegan 0: Caleb Evans was 3-for-4 with a homer and 5 RBI, Nick Brueckert went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, and the visiting Patriots won the North Suburban game in five innings.
Stevenson (16-11-1, 11-7) also got doubles from Jack Housinger and Nathan Ralston. Nick Bonk allowed 1 hit in 4 innings, striking out five and not walking a batter to earn the win. Ari Gordon struck out the side in the fifth.
Waukegan fell to 1-17 in the NSC.
Grayslake North 20, Round Lake 3: On Tuesday, Nate Marshall and Nick Lovitsch both homered, and the Knights pounded out 20 hits in their Northern Lake County win.
Lovitsch and Jason Donohue were each 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Trace Taskovic was 3-for-4 with a double. Grayslake North also got multiple-hit games from Marshall (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Andrew Keaskowski (2-for-3, double), Lane Getka (2-for-3) and Ray Shoemaker (2-for-4). Austin DeLao had a double and 3 RBI.
Round Lake got a solo home run from Osvaldo Mercado and a 2-for-3 effort from Amadeus Pope.
