Softball: Lakes brings Hamill win No. 200

Lakes' softball team scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to snap a 2-2 tie en route to a 5-4 win over Grayslake Central on Tuesday, giving Bill Hamill his 200th win in 10 seasons as coach of the Eagles.

Rachel Becker was 2-for-4, and Camryn Jones and Georgia Ohren were both 2-for-3, as Lakes improved to 14-6 and 8-2 in the Northern Lake County Conference. Kayla Foote went the distance in the circle for the Eagles, allowing 3 earned runs, while striking out four and walking one.

Grayslake Central (14-5, 7-5) got a solo home run from Morgan Smigielski. Both Smigielski and Grace Bradley (double) were 2-for-4.

Antioch 14, Round Lake 4: Avery Malicki homered and knocked in 5 runs, as the visiting Sequoits won in Northern Lake County action.

Antioch (15-6, 7-2) received 2 hits apiece from Ashlyn Sundell (4 stolen bases, 2 RBI), Megan Lawrence (RBI), Abby Pyburn, Deighton Butenschoen (double, 2 RBI) and Hailey Webb (double, RBI). Amber Blake picked up the win.

Round Lake got a 2-run homer from Charla Ryan and a solo shot from Brianna McGinley.

Grant 16, North Chicago 0: Erin Bengston had 2 homers and 6 RBI, and Julianna Reynolds struck out 10 in 4 innings of work, leading the Bulldogs in Northern Lake County action.

Megan Mitchell was 3-for-4 with a homer, triple and 4 RBI, and Gabby Rogalevich finished 2-for-2 with a triple and 3 RBI. Grant also got a triple from Liz Schram.

Grayslake North 15, Wauconda 3: The host Knights rolled to their ninth straight victory, as Grace Brown hit her 13th bomb of the year, a grand slam in the fourth that landed in the adjacent baseball field.

Faith Standerski went a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk, 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases for Grayslake North (14-7, 6-3 NLCC). Jessica Pozezinski (2 RBI, double, stolen base) and Alyssa Carr (2 RBI) added 2 hits each. Evan Garrett, Nina Wittig, Scout Kram, Caitlin Barenbaum, and Ashton Moore all had singles. Winning pitcher Scout Kram scattered 4 hits and 2 earned runs in her 4 innings to go along with 4 strikeouts.

For Wauconda, Julia Fohlmeister, Sydney Rodgers, Kelly Weller, Angelica Cho and Riley Aldrich all had singles.

Mundelein 2, Libertyville 0: Breanna Adams did it all, as the host Mustangs beat their rival in North Suburban action.

Adams pitched a 2-hitter, striking out four and walking three. The only hits she allowed were singles to Chloe Bleck (2-for-2, walk).

Adams also paced the Mundelein offense, going 3-for-3 with a double and driving in both of the game's runs. Kira Buckner was 2-for-3 for the Mustangs.

Lake Zurich 10, Stevenson 3: Maura Ginn was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and winning pitcher Stephanie Keefe allowd 1 earned run in 7 innings with 8 strikeouts, as the host Bears won the North Suburban Conference game.

Lake Zurich's Olivia Collins was 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, Julia Zaucha went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Keefe aided her own cause with a double.

For Stevenson (6-13, 5-6) Maggie O'Brien was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles.

Warren 14, Waukegan 0: Lydia Gratz pitched a 5-inning no-hitter, striking out eight and walking one, as the Bears captured the North Suburban contest.

Kayla Nommensen was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI to pace the Warren offense. Gratz (double, 3 RBI), Becca Geiyer, Taylor Shaw and Kelly Beck each had a pair of hits.

Vernon Hills 7, Glenbrook North 2: The Cougars improved to 10-13 and 8-1 in the Central Suburban League North Division.
