Softball: Hersey moves into tie for first with Prospect
Defending Mid-Suburban East softball champion Hersey moved into a first-place tie with Prospect on Tuesday with an 11-1 five-inning triumph at Schaumburg in the Mid-Suburban League crossover.
Junior Brianna Luciano (7-4) earned the win as the Huskies improved to 16-5 and 9-4. Prospect is 17-6 and 9-4.
Makayla Tsagalis (2-for-4, double), Hannah Graff (3-for-4, double, 3 RBI), Luciano (2-for-3, double, RBI), Jodi Hermann (2-for-3 2 RBI). Sarah Bailitz (double, RBI) and Renae Curtis (RBI) also had hits for the Huskies.
Rachel Kissamis led Schaumburg by going 2-for-3 while Talia Torosian, Janalee Lyke, Tiffani Rudnick also had hits for the Saxons.
Sage Morton drove in the only run for Schaumburg (1-17, 1-12) with a groundout RBI.
Conant 10 Wheeling 4: Sydney Correa and Paige Nallen each went 2-for-4 with a double as the visiting Cougars raised their record to 13-7 and 9-4 with the MSL crossover win.
Makenna McCarthy (triple), Morgan Long and Tara Lovas also had hits for Conant.
Freshman Julia Flaishaker (6-4) earned the win, striking out five and giving up 7 hits in 6 innings.
Nikki Ferraro and Peyton LaCaeyse each doubled for Wheeling (0-15, 0-12).
Maine West 5, Deerfield 0: Gabby Demma (2-for-4, 2 RBI, double), Brianna Torres (4-for-4, 2 runs) and Amanda Byrne 2-for-3, home run, 2 RBI) led the offense for West (13-8, 8-1) in the CSL North.
Jessica Steingard posted the win, striking out eight and allowing only 1 hit in the first six innings. Emily Divilbus struck out the only two batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh.
Loyola 13, St. Viator 5: Maggie VanValkenburg, Nicole Ardito, Cece Kaiser and Annie Sweeney each had 2 hits for the Lions (3-22), who also received a double from Haley Robinson in the nonconference game.
