Softball: Crystal Lake South, Huntley keep pace in FVC race

Lauren Schoen tossed a 3-hit shutout Tuesday as Crystal Lake South kept pace in the Fox Valley Conference softball race with a 4-0 win over Jacobs.

The Gators (17-4, 10-2) stayed one game behind Huntley in the title chase. They host the Red Raiders on Thursday after playing at Hampshire Wednesday.

Brooke Kuffel had a 2-run home run for CLS in Tuesday's win while Kyra Swartz added a double and an RBI.

Kerri Healy had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Hannah Slocum had a double for the Golden Eagles (10-9-1, 5-5).

Huntley 3, CL Central 2: The Red Raiders (19-5, 8-1) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to avoid being upset in this FVC game. Teagen O'Rilley had 2 hits with an RBI and Tiffany Giese added a double. Bri Bower was the winning pitcher in relief of Giese.

Hampshire 11, Prairie Ridge 9: Delaney Rummell (2B) and Sarah Bowen each had grand slam home runs in Hampshire's FVC win. Morgan Haefling, Jasmine Lopez and Gwen Malecke added 2 hits each for the Whip-Purs (10-9, 5-5).

Dundee-Crown 2, Cary-Grove 0: Sydney Ruggles twirled the shutout, striking out 8 with no walks, and she hit a solo home run as the Chargers (13-10, 9-4) won in the FVC. Andrea Conway added a double and Cady English had 2 hits for D-C. Nicolette Richardi had 2 hits for the Trojans (11-6, 5-5) and Katy Wierczorek added a double. Emma Hill allowed just 5 hits and 1 earned run in suffering the loss.

South Elgin 8, West Aurora 4: Geneva Pollman (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Julianna Battaglia (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI), Sami Koss (3 hits, RBI), Sam Dietz (2 doubles) and Casey Brennan (2B) led the offense for South Elgin (12-10) in its Upstate Eight Valley win. Sidney Strama picked up the win in the circle. Gab Drager had 3 hits with a double, home run and 2 RBI for West Aurora while Janae Holloway (RBI) and Shai Erdrich each added 2 hits.

St. Charles North 7, Streamwood 0: Jillian Waslawski tossed a 4-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks and added 2 doubles and 4 RBI at the plate for the North Stars (12-7) in their UEC River win. Alyssa Eby added a double and an RBI for SCN and Ashlyn Jozefowic had a double. Corinne Angle had 2 hits for Streamwood.

Kaneland 5, Ottawa 2: Danielle Sommesi (2 hits) and Hannah Theobald each hit home runs for Kaneland in its Northern Illinois Big XII crossover win. Emilee Erickson allowed 5 hits and had 12 strikeouts for the win in the circle.

St. Edward 5, Guerin 1: Jessy Kramp had 2 doubles and 2 RBI at the plate and allowed 5 hits with 12 strikeouts and 4 walks from the circle to lead St. Edward (10-9) to a Metro Suburban win. Sarah Mendoza added 3 hits with a double for the Green Wave.

IC Catholic 10, ACC 9: Isabel Gonzalez had 5 hits with 4 doubles and 3 RBI but Aurora Central (12-13) came up short in this MSC game. Alheli Velazquez added 2 hits with a double for the Chargers while Lizzy Albert had 2 hits and 2 RBI and Sammy Martinez a triple.
