Baseball: Wheaton North hands Neuqua Valley its first loss of season

For the second straight season Wheaton North pitcher Jon Vesevick handed Neuqua Valley its first loss, defeating the Wildcats 4-3 Monday in Naperville.

Vesevick scattered 7 hits in 6 innings. Jay Gail picked up the save. A 3-run fourth inning gave Wheaton North (17-8, 13-5 DuPage Valley Conference) the lead for good. Tyler Woltman and Sam Hacker, who homered, had 2 hits. Jack Rigoni went 3-for-3 for the Wildcats (22-1, 16-1).

York 3, Oak Park 2:

Mike Pastuovic's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Dukes (18-5, 9-3) a walkoff win in the West Suburban Silver. It was the first run for either team since the third inning. Charlie Pakenas allowed 3 hits and struck out seven in 8 innings. John Milling was the winning pitcher with an inning of scoreless relief.

Glenbard South 9, IC Catholic Prep 8:

Trailing 8-3 after the Knights (10-6, 7-9 Metro Suburban) exploded for 7 sixth-inning runs, Glenbard South (12-12, 9-5) won the game by scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the seventh. John McMahon, who drove in 2 runs, and Mason Barnick had 2 hits. Griffen Eichhorn went 3-for-4 for IC Catholic Prep.

Naperville North 4, Naperville Central 1:

Winning pitcher Mark McCabe struck out 11 and scattered 5 hits in 6⅓ innings to help the Huskies (14-10, 8-9) take two of three in the DuPage Valley series. Danny Hughes, Sam Hojnar and Braden Lindmark had 2 hits for Naperville Central (12-12, 9-9).

Benet 12, Nazareth 2:

Behind a 7-run fourth inning, the Redwings (14-10, 10-4) won in six innings in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Brandon Gorz doubled twice and drove in 3 runs while Connor Hincks also had 3 RBI. Winning pitcher Jared Novak allowed 3 hits in 4 innings.

Glenbard West 11, Downers North 4:

The Hilltoppers (11-8, 6-6 West Suburban Silver) scored in five different innings. Tommy Bleker and Adrian Del Valle each drove in 2 runs in support of winning pitcher Logan Ryan. T.J. Drohan and Nick Bacarella had 2 hits for Downers North (8-16, 6-10).

Lake Park 9, Glenbard North 6:

Anthony Baturin pitched 4 innings to earn the win and also went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI as the Lancers (13-10, 10-8) swept in the DuPage Valley. Rory Marino also had 2 hits. Mike Wellman went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for Glenbard North (7-17, 2-15).

Hinsdale South 8, Downers South 4:

The Hornets (14-9, 10-3) forged a two-way tie for first place with Downers South (15-7, 10-3) in the West Suburban Gold. Bobby O'Donnell homered while winning pitcher Frankie Klemm and Jake Klepacz had 2 RBI.

Metea Valley 8, WW South 0:

Andrew Cronin pitched a 5-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Mustangs (13-12, 12-10 DuPage Valley). Cronin, Jake Kmiecik, Carter Wardell and Jack Belskis had 2 hits. Matt Brodhead went 2-for-3 for WW South (11-13, 9-11).

Addison Trail 5, Hinsdale Central 3:

Winning pitcher Nick Daudelin scattered 6 hits in 5 innings and drove in 2 runs for the Blazers (14-11). Tom Jurack went 3-for-4 for Hinsdale Central (8-13).

Timothy Christian 5, St. Edward 3:

A 3-run top of the fifth inning broke a tie for the Trojans (12-12, 7-8) in Metro Suburban play. Harrison Stanton went 2-for-4 while Connor Gwaltney had 2 RBI. Winning pitcher Garrett Pullen allowed 3 hits in 5 innings.
