Softball: Huntley, Kaneland win at Marengo tourney

Paige Berkmeyer drove in the only run in the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Huntley a 1-0 win over Bartlett on Friday at Marengo's softball tournament.

Briana Bower got the win for the Red Raiders (16-4) pitching the final 2 perfect innings after Tiffany Giese pitched the first 5, striking out 11. Kendra Mitchell had 2 hits for Huntley.

Also at the Marengo tournament, host Marengo (15-3) defeated Hampshire 10-6. Marengo hit 5 home runs in the game; Hampshire had 2, by Sarah Bowen and Melissa Esparza. Bowen had 3 hits in the game and Esparza drove in 3 runs.

Kaneland also played at Marengo and pulled out an 11-10 win over Montini, collecting 15 hits.

Emilee Erickson got the win for the Knights. She went 1 1/3 innings following McKenna Ryan and Rose Roach.

Hannah Theobald and Olivia Ortegel both had 3 hits, and Rose Roach and Haley Roach both had 2.

Crystal Lake South 13, McHenry 12: In a wild Fox Valley Conference battle, the Gators scored in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and in the eighth for the win. Kyra Swartz started a 2-out rally in the eighth win a single and scored on Carly Chovanec's double. Brooke Kuffel homered in the seventh to tie the game for the Gators (14-3) before McHenry turned a double play to escape a bases-loaded jam and force extra innings.

Chovanec had 4 hits, and Kuffel, Baylee Kassel and Skylar Olsen all had 3.

Prairie Ridge 7, Dundee-Crown 6: Down 6-4 going to the bottom of the eighth, Emelia Farnham hit a 2-run homer to tie the game and Madalyne O'Brien followed with a solo home run to win it.

Andrea Conway had given the Chargers (11-10) the lead in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly and Cassidy Randl singled in a run.

Sydney Ruggles (7 IP, 7 Ks, 5 ER) took the loss. She went 2-for-4 at the plate, and Deanna Origer was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs.

Batavia 17, East Aurora 0: Noelle Chaney threw a 1-hit shutout. Allison Bahlmann hit a home run, drove in 5 runs and had 3 hits. Peyton Sachse, Chloe Chvojcsek and Sammi Wicks also had 3 hits for the Bulldogs.

Jacobs 14, Woodstock North 4: Emily Pena had a huge day at the plate driving in 7 runs for Jacobs (9-7-1). She hit 2 home runs and doubled.

Hannah Slocum had a triple, double and scored twice. Katie Armstrong went 3-for-5, and Delaney Garden and Kerri Healy both added 2 hits. Jess Mrzlak scored twice and had 2 RBI. Garden pitched the first 3 innings and struck out 4, leaving with a 7-0 lead.

Naperville North 12, Rosary 1: Ashley Auchstetter drove in the only run for the Royals (4-5-1), scoring Chloe Saltijeral who had 1 of the team's 3 hits.
