Badminton: Palatine sends full set through to state

Palatine's badminton team got a singles championship from Rose Clement to help earn the Pirates a team victory with 14½ points in the sectional they hosted Friday.

Clement defeated Rolling Meadows' Brittney Brown for the singles title 21-6, 11-21, 21-17. Palatine's Lily Morris and Lake Park's Carly Verhrs also advanced to next weekend's state tournament, with Vehrs winning in two games in the third-place match.

In doubles, DeKalb's doubles teams earned the top two spots. Palatine's doubles - Kamila Czyszczon/Ariana Daniels and Sophia Kics/Megan Obernesser - also made state with the third- and fourth-place finishes.

DeKalb (11.5 points) finished second, followed by Lake Park (8) and Rolling Meadows (6) in the team standings.
