Baseball: Barrington, Schaumburg will have to finish up later

While many area teams cancelled their baseball games before the first pitch Wednesday, Schaumburg and Barrington were able to ride out the storm.

For a bit.

Playing at Barrington, the teams moved into the top of the third before nature finally won out.

The game was suspended with Barrington leading 4-0. Schaumburg (4-14, 2-7) has a Jake Goliher on first base with two out. Tyler Robinson is at the plate with a 1-2 count.

The game will resume at that point on Thursday, weather permitting.

Barrington (15-3-2, 10-0) which bested Schaumburg 20-5 on Monday, scored a pair of runs in each of the first two innings.

Tyler Acosta tallied in the top of the first, thanks to a Schaumburg error. Clark Elliott, who has the Broncos only hit, then scored on a fielder's choice.

Acosta had a sacrifice fly in the second, knocking home Jake Horcher, who had walked. Johnny Gagne, who also had walked, later scored on a wild pitch.

Wheeling 11, Rolling Meadows 4: In this Tuesday matchup, the ball carried well for Wheeling - and especially for Kyle Bullock.

He hit a 2-run homer in the sixth inning and had a pair of doubles to finish 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored in an MSL East win for the Wildcats (11-10, 4-6). Eric Konrath ended up 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI, and Andy Shover was 2-for-3.

Meadows (7-10-1, 5-5) got all its scoring on a pair of 2-run longballs, from Nate Pardini and from Jack Kane. Pardini, Kane and Brandon Janowicz each finished with 2 hits.

Patrick Cooney struck out four in a complete-game win for Wheeling.
