Softball: Ruggles' 1-hitter carries Dundee-Crown over Cary-Grove

Sydney Ruggles fired a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks and added 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI as Dundee-Crown defeated Cary-Grove 8-0 Tuesday in Fox Valley Conference softball action.

Hannah Gestrich (2 hits, 2B), Claire Weeks (2 hits, RBI) and Deanna Origer (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) led the offense for the Chargers (11-9, 6-3).

Kelly Johnson had the only hit for Cary-Grove (11-5, 5-4).

Huntley 12, Jacobs 2: Tiffany Giese (3 hits), Sofia Tenuta (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Autumn Kasal (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI), Grace Kutz (2 hits) and Marley Reicher (2 hits) led Huntley (15-4, 5-1) to this FVC win. Kerri Healy and Sarah Lynch had RBI for Jacobs (8-7, 5-4).

CL South 10, Prairie Ridge 2: Lauren Schoen allowed 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk and added a double and 2 RBI to lead Crystal Lake South (13-3, 6-2) in the FVC. Also contributing for the Gators were Carly Chovanec (3 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Brooke Kuffel (2B), Baylee Kassel (2B, RBI), Maddie Bush (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Skylar Olsen (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI).

CL Central 8, Hampshire 5: Morgan Haefling (2 hits, RBI), Sarah Bowen (2 hits, 3B, RBI), Melissa Esparza (2 hits, 2B), Gwen Malecke (2B, RBI) and Shai-Ann Curie (2B, RBI) led Hampshire (7-8, 4-6) in a FVC loss.

Burlington Central 3, Woodstock North 0: Alisyn Catenacci allowed just 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead Burlington Central to a Kishwaukee River win. Peyton Curtis (2B), Lindsay Jamrozek (2 RBI) and Danielle Yurgil (2 hits, RBI) led the offense for the Rockets (13-5, 7-2).

St. Charles North 21, Larkin 2: Jess Wilson had a home run and 4 RBI while Sydney Eby (3 RBI), Laine VanderHei (2B, 2 RBI) and Danielle Trumbo (2 RBI) had 3 hits each for SCN (9-6, 7-3) in the Upstate Eight River. Also contributing for the North Stars were Jillian Waslawski (2B, RBI), Taylor Baumgartner (2B, RBI), Lindsay Sawicki (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Grace Sobieski (2 hits, RBI). Sawicki was the winning pitcher allowing 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 innings. Kiara Villa had 2 RBI for Larkin (4-14, 2-7) and Gloria Stoltz added a double.

St. Charles East 7, Streamwood 1: Maddy Stout had 2 hits including a grand slam home run to lead the Saints (14-5, 8-1) to a UEC River win. Maddie Candre added 2 hits for SCE while Sara Campagna (2 hits, RBI) also contributed. Madelyn Rouse was the winning pitcher. Tessa Freedman had 2 hits for Streamwood (5-12, 3-7).

South Elgin 22, East Aurora 1: Winning pitcher Sophia Salazar (1 hit, 8 Ks, 4 BBs) had 4 hits including 3 doubles and 3 RBI to lead the Storm (10-9, 9-3) to a UEC Valley win. Also producing for South Elgin were Casey Brennan (2 hits, 2 RBI), Julianna Battaglia (2 hits, RBI), McKenna Eicholz (2B, 2 RBI), Alyssa Kendall (3 hits), Sami Koss (4 hits, 3 RBI), Julianna Miranda (2 hits, 2 RBI), Daisy Fuentes (2 hits, 4 RBI) and Sidney Strama (2 RBI).

Sycamore 5, Kaneland 4: Rose Roach and Katie Kurzrock each had 2 hits for Kaneland (11-9, 5-4) in a Northern Illinois Big XII East loss.

South Beloit 6, Westminster Christian 3: Drew Randazzo had a triple for Westminster in its Northeastern Athletic Conference loss.
