Softball: Elk Grove blanks Hoffman in five innings
Elk Grove's softball team collected seven extra-base hits, including a home run by catcher Katia Pendowski and a triple by Morgan Leach, en route to a 17-0 five-inning Mid-Suburban League crossover win at Hoffman Estates on Tuesday.
Freshman A.J. Trasch went 4-for-4 with 3 doubles for the Grens, who improved to 9-11 and 5-4 in the MSL East.
Pendowski finished 2-for-2 with the homer and a double. Junior Jaimie Klicka (2-for-3) was EG's other multiple hitter. Freshman Olivia Masnica added a double.
Sophomore winning pitcher Lauren Clausen (5-3) allowed 1 hit in the first three innings while freshman Olivia Masnica threw 2 hitless innings.
Patricia Wadas led off the bottom of the second inning with a single, which stood as the only hit for Hoffman (3-12-1, 2-8).
Buffalo Grove 16, Wheeling 4 (5 inn.): Olivia Morini (2-for-4, 4 runs), Jackie Bickhaus (2-for-3, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Megan Fontanetta (2-for-4, double, 2 runs, 4 RBI) and Bailey Williams (2-for-3, double) led the offense for visiting Buffalo Grove (4-12, 2-8) in the MSL East win. Sam Hansen and Hannah Young each had doubles for BG.
Freshman Kylie Mainville (4 hits, 1 strikeout) went the first three innings for the win while Emmie Lacaeyse struck out four for Wheeling (0-11, 0-8). Dakota Medrano went 2-for-3 with a double for the Wildcats.
Hersey 13, Lake Park 10: Junior Sarah Bailitz (9-1) struck out five in seven innings as the winning pitcher and also belted a home run and double for 4 RBI as host Hersey raised its record to 13-4 with the nonconference win.
Other multiple hitters for the Huskies were Chloe Gordon (4-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Jodi Hermann (3-for-4, 3 runs, double), Hannah Graff (2-for-5, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Asia Luboyeski (3-for-4) and Morgan Breden (2-for-4).
Maine West 5, Glenbrook North 1: Jessica Steingard threw a 3-hitter with 7 strikeouts as the visiting Warriors improved to 11-7 and 6-1 in the CSL North.
Mayria Adams (2-for-4) belted a homer and a double for the Warriors. Other offensive leaders were Gabby Demma (2-for-4), Amanda Byrne (2-for-4, RBI) and Olivia Feldkamp (2-for-3, double, 2 runs). Allison Pearson also had an RBI for West.
