Girls soccer: Kaneland deals Sycamore its 1st loss

The Kaneland girls soccer team put together a signature win Tuesday when it knocked off Sycamore 2-1 in Northern Illinois Big XII action, giving the Spartans (15-1) their first loss of the season.

Sycamore, the No. 1 seed in the Rochelle sectional who allowed just 9 goals coming in, saw Kaneland (11-2-1, 3-1-1) strike 16 minutes in thanks to Abbie Lomahan, who scored off Gaby Faletto's assist. After the Spartans got an equalizer in the 32nd minute, Rachel Franck found Taylor Carlson, who answered with her goal in the next minute for the game-winner.

Harvest Christian 3, Keith Country Day 2: Hannah Caldwell, Sonja Jenkins and Isa Garcia each scored goals that helped the Lions (9-6-1, 7-0) clinch the Northeastern Athletic conference title. Garcia had 1 save in goal and scored the game-winner during the 78th minute after the Cougars rallied to tie it with 7 minutes left. Hannah Pienkowski and Emma Stotz provided assists while Maggie D'Alessandro made 3 saves in net.

Geneva 4, Larkin 0: Sydney Gratz supplied the Vikings (9-5-1, 3-1-1) a goal and an assist in a UEC River win. Jenna Dominguez, Katie Cannon and Mackenzie Bennett each scored goals while Liv Tegge had 1 assist. In Geneva's shutout, keeper Katie Montgomery had 2 saves.

St. Charles North 9, Streamwood 0: The North Stars improved to 15-0-1 overall and 4-0 in conference with a commanding win over the Sabres in Upstate Eight River action.

All goals came in the first half as Kellie Callaghan and Chloe Netzel had 2 each. Gia Wahlberg and Sami Rydberg each had 1 goal and 1 assist while Cassidy Joyce, Claudia Najera and Jordan Karom added goals. Hailey Rydberg topped 2 assists while Bella Falco and Makenna Collins each had 1. North keeper Nathalie Grier made 1 save in the shutout.

CL South 8, Hampshire 0: The Gators (9-5, 5-1) won this FVC matchup over the Whips thanks to hat tricks from Jasmine Lopez and Cam Senstock. Taylor Bittenbender provided 2 goals and 1 assist while Maidsen Safraniec and Emma Chudik each totaled 2 assists. Abby Wiegand also assisted.

Huntley 1, McHenry 0: The Red Raiders (7-6-1, 2-4) received a goal from Brenna Keegan that held up for a FVC win over the Warriors. Ashley Lovins made 1 save in the shutout while Alyssa Xanos had 1 assist.

Aurora Central 4, Indian Creek 0: Shannon LoPresti and Mary Canning each had 2 goals in a win for the Chargers (11-6-2). Three of the 4 goals came off an Anna Dudziak assist while LoPresti added 1 of her own. Keeper Alex Montalbano tallied 4 saves in the shutout.

CL Central 2, Dundee-Crown 1: The Chargers (7-9, 3-4) had plenty of chances against the Tigers but couldn't find the back the net in this FVC loss. D-C did cut the halftime deficit in half thanks to Katelyn Skibinski's goal in the 55th minute. Genny Rendl had 1 assist while goalie Diana Santillan kept the Chargers in it with 5 saves.
