Boys volleyball: Grayslake Central tops North in 3
Austin Rockel had 11 kills, Emmanuel Eugene added seven, and Grayslake Central defeated Grayslake North 17-25, 25-20, 25-15 in Northern Lake County Conference boys volleyball action on Tuesday night.
Javier Ortiz and Steve Reinoso dished out 15 and 8 assists, respectively, for Grayslake Central. Jameson Loeffler had 12 digs and Kaleb Patrick added nine.
Glenbrook North d. Vernon Hills: The Spartans won 25-21, 25-20 to drop the Cougars to 10-10 and 3-3 in the Central Suburban League North Division.
Jack McDonald had 6 kills for Vernon Hills, which also got 3 apiece from Krys Han, Derrick Jones and Joey Reyes.
"It was encouraging to see us put up a better fight than our last match, but we just keep making the same mistakes," Cougars coach Chris Curry said. "Until we decide to change a little, we'll keep playing the good teams just close enough to lose. We're trying some new lineup combinations, and those are showing some promise. It's a puzzle, and we're trying to get our best players on the floor where they can help us the most. We're still looking for that right combination."
Jonathan Wallach had a decent night setting - "He made good decisions every time," Curry said - and the sophomore Han returned to he lineup from an injury.
"He did well for his first match with varsity in about a month," Curry said.
