Softball: Webb's walk-off HR puts St. Charles North past Geneva
Mary Webb hit a walk-off home run on a 3-1 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Monday to lift St. Charles North to a 2-1 win over Geneva in an Upstate Eight River softball game.
Alyssa Eby added a double and an RBI for the North Stars (9-6, 6-3). Jillian Waslawski allowed just 4 hits and no earned runs to earn the win.
Katie Geary, Carissa Bombardiere, Katie Keller and Sam Keller had the only hits for Geneva (15-5, 8-3). Ali Dierks suffered the loss despite allowing just 3 hits.
Batavia 4, South Elgin 1: Winning pitcher Sammi Wicks (4 hits, 3 Ks, 1 BB) had a home run at the plate to lead the Bulldogs (12-8, 8-2) to a UEC win. Jaelen Lisberg had a home run and 2 RBI for Batavia and Peyton Sachse added 2 hits and an RBI. Julianna Battaglia had 2 hits for South Elgin (9-9, 8-3). Sidney Strama suffered the loss.
St. Charles East 13, West Aurora 1: Maddie Candre (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Hannah Cozzi (2 RBI) each hit home runs for SCE (13-5, 7-1) in its UEC win. Alex Wooten (3 hits) and Mddy Stout (2 doubles, 4 RBI) also produced for the Saints. Katie Arrambide tossed a 3-hitter with no earned runs allowed, 11 strikeouts and no walks for the win. Gabbi Nilles had a triple and an RBI for West Aurora (4-9, 4-5).
CL South 6, Dundee-Crown 3: Crystal Lake South scored 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning to come away with this Fox Valley Conference win. Brooke Kuffel (3 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Emily Sulikowski (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) led the offense for the Gators (12-3, 5-2). Christina Toniolo earned the win in the circle. Cady English had 2 hits for D-C (10-9, 5-3) while Deanna Origer added 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Kylie Ryza 2 hits and 2 RBI. Sydney Ruggles had 11 strikeouts in suffering the loss.
Cary-Grove 9, CL Central 3: Kelly Johnson (2 hits, 2 RBI), Katy Wierczorek (2B), Emma Hill (2 hits, 3 RBI), Anna Whitaker (RBI), Frankie Cruz (2 doubles) and Jazz Flashing (2B, 2 RBI) led the Trojans (11-4, 5-3) to a FVC win. Hill picked up the win, allowing 8 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
Sycamore 12, Kaneland 8: Rose Roach, Olivia Ortegel, Hailey Roach and Natalie Kraemer all managed multiple hits for the Knights (11-8, 5-3) in a Northern Illinois Big XII East loss.
Woodstock North 2, Burlington Central 0: Hanaa Nkhikhssi had Burlington's only hit in this Kishwaukee River loss. Julia Barnes suffered the loss for the Rockets (12-5, 6-2) despite allowing just 3 hits and 1 earned run.
St. Edward 5, Elmwood Park 1: Sarah Mendoza had 3 hits with 2 doubles and an RBI as St. Edward (7-6, 5-4) won in the Metro Suburban. Also contributing for the Green Wave were Chloe Davies (2 hits, RBI), Annalise Avila (2B) and Ashley Miller (2B, RBI). Jessy Kramp earned the win, allowing 5 hits with 13 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Illiana Christian 3, ACC 1: Dani Brown and Izzy Hernandez had the only hits for Aurora Central in its Metro Suburban loss. Brown suffered the loss for the Chargers (15-9, 2-6), allowing 3 hits and no earned runs with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings.
