Softball: Grayslake North powers up against Johnsburg

Grayslake North's hard-hitting softball team got a couple of nonconference wins against Johnsburg, 15-9 and 13-1 on Saturday in nonconference action.

In the first game, Grayslake North got 3 hits apiece from Grace Brown (3-4, 2 RBI), Faith Standerski (3-4, RBI) and Jess Pozezinski (3-4, 4 RBI).

Brown had 2 doubles, Pozezinski had a double and Standerski had a double and a triple.

Alyssa Carr (2-4, 2 RBI) hit her second home run of the season. And Meghan Delahunty (2-4) also added 2 hits.

Pitcher Evan Garrett got the win in a complete game effort, rolling up 10 strikeouts.

In the second game, winning pitcher Emily Mack took a no-hit bid to the bottom of the fifth inning before a bloop single landed just out of reach of the diving center fielder. She settled for a 6 inning win, giving up 0 earned runs, and scattering 3 hits to go along with 11 strikeouts.

Alyssa Carr (RBI) and Ashton Moore (3 RBI) led the way with 3 hits apiece. Faith Standerski (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Grace Brown (RBI), and Jess Pozezinski (RBI) all added 2 hits.

Grayslake North is now 7-7 on the season.

Libertyville sweeps: Libertyville got two wins over Deerfield, 10-4, 13-12.

In the first game, Maggie Evers had a big game at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBI.

Aliya Haddon, Emily Hilldale and Sarah Bennett each added 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Amanda Page had 8 strikeouts and just 1 walk over seven innings.

In the second game, Sarah Hoyer and Haddon each went 3-for-4.

Haddon had 2 doubles and 4 RBI while Hoyer had a double as well.

Winning pitcher Katie Jahncke had 2 strikeouts for Libertyville, which moves to 13-5.

Page added 2 hits for the Wildcats.

Grant sweeps: Grant got a nonconference sweep against Palatine, 10-9, 6-2.

In the first game, Grant overcame 5 errors.

Megan Mitchell, Erin Bengston and Madeline Quinn led the way with 2 hits apiece while Liz Schram drilled a home run.

Winning pitcher Sydney Goessele had 3 strikeouts over seven innings.

In the second game, Gabby Rogalevich went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 doubles while Schram homered again.

Mitchell added 3 hits and Bengston had 2 hits.

Winning pitcher Juliana Reynolds had 6 strikeouts and just 1 walk in seven innings.

Lake Zurich 18, New Trier 12: It was a hit-fest as the teams combined for 31 hits.

Lake Zurich was led by Stephanie Keefe and Abby Jokerst who each had 3 hits.

Megan Croke, Julia Zaucha, and Haley Gajewski each had 2 hits. One of Gajewski's hits was a home run.

Winning pitcher Maura Ginn had 3 strikeouts over 5⅓ innings.

Lake Zurich also defeated New Trier 13-0. Keefe had 3 hits and Jokerst had a home run.

McHenry 5, Grayslake Central 4: Morgan Smigielski had 2 hits, including a double while Elisa Koshy had a home run for Grayslake Central.

Rolling Meadows 17, Wauconda 3: Sydney Rogers, Kayla Serio and Kelly Weller each had 2 hits for Wauconda.

Warren 29, Lakes 1: Warren smacked 7 home runs, including a grand slam by Ashlyn Kitter and 3 home runs by Kayla Nommensen.

Warren had a total of 29 hits.
