Baseball: South Elgin, Batavia, Geneva win UEC games

Ben Hetelle allowed just 3 hits over 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks Saturday as South Elgin's baseball team defeated Elgin 9-3 in an Upstate Eight Conference game.

Hetelle also had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Storm (5-2, 2-2). Austin Doty added a triple and an RBI, Nate Gomez had 2 hits, Logan Romasanta a double and 2 RBI and Matt Sweitzer 2 hits with a double and an RBI.

Kyle Coates had 2 hits for Elgin (4-14, 1-9) while Jack Sitter added a double and John Fortmann a double and an RBI.

Batavia 3, Glenbard East 0: Justin Pelley allowed just 3 hits with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks over 6 innings as Batavia (11-7, 8-5) won this UEC game. Cole Nelson had 2 hits for the Bulldogs while Jack Haefer had a double and an RBI.

Geneva 9, Bartlett 3: Josh Rose (3 hits, RBI), Jackson Chase (2 hits, 2B), Nathan Dewey (2 hits, 2 RBI), Garrett Bragg (2 hits, RBI) and Andrew Bernas (2 hits, RBI) led Geneva (10-6, 7-4) to a UEC win. Hunter Venditti was the winning pitcher. Andrew Fehr had 2 RBI for Bartlett (2-12, 1-6).

Westminster Christian sweeps: Matthew Schulenburg doubled and scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning of Game 1 as Westminster downed Christian Liberty 6-5 in the Northeastern Athletic Conference.

The Warriors (12-7, 7-1) completed the sweep with a 7-3 win in Game 2. In the opener, Andrew Kurcz (2 hits), Nathen Martinez (2 RBI) and winning pitcher Mason Runkel (2 hits) led the Westminster offense.

In the nightcap, Schulenburg had 2 hits while Runkel added 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI, Martinez had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, Theron Dorsey had 2 hits and JT Stoll 2 RBI. Kurcz struck out 14 and walked 1 for the win.

AC sweeps Schaumburg Christian: Aurora Christian rolled to a NAC sweep, winning 25-0 and 15-2. In Game 1, the Eagles (15-2, 6-1) were led by Isaac Skogerboe (2B, 4 RBI), Hunter Thompson (2 hits, 2 RBI), Evan Stoneberg (3 hits, 3 RBI), Trey Madsen (2 hits, 2B, 4 RBI), Zach Zavasnik (3 hits, RBI), Sam Tickel (2 hits, HR, 2 RBI), Declan Palmquist (2 hits, 2 RBI), MJ Stavola (3 hits, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) and Eric Hernandez (2 hits, 3B, 3 RBI).

In the nightcap, Jake Kuntzendorf (3 hits, 2B), Stoneberg (2 hits, 2B), Clark Turek (2 hits), Palmquist (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Zavasnik (2 hits) and Tickel (2 hits, 3B, 4 RBI led the way.

St. Charles North 9, Libertyville 1: Erik Larson fired a complete game 5-hitter to lead the North Stars (12-2) to a nonconference win. Ryan Thiesse (2B), Justin Dunne (2 hits, 2 RBI), Steve Hamer (2 RBI) and Egon Hein (3B, RBI) led the SCN offense.

Burlington Central 21, Belvidere North 2: Zach Schutta had 3 hits with a double, home run and 6 RBI as the Rockets (12-6) rolled to a nonconference win. Adding to the production for BC were Colton Wallace (2 hits, RBI), Nick Matijevic (2 hits, 2 RBI), Jake Mellinger (2B, 3 RBI), Adam Finestein (2B, 2 RBI) and Ethan Krieger (2B, RBI). Andrew Knowlton earned the win, allowing 3 hits with 7 strikeouts and 1 walk over 4 innings.

St. Edward splits with Sycamore: Jack Olson had 2 hits with a double, triple and 3 RBI as St. Edward won Game 2 of this nonconference doubleheader 8-6 after dropping the opener 4-3. Jake Middleton added 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI in the win.

The Green Wave (5-18) managed just 3 hits in the opener. Ben Boydston had 2 hits with a double.

St. Laurence 20, Marmion 8: In the Chicago Catholic League, Jake Carlson has 2 hits, Sam Ochoa 3 hits with a double, Chase Stanke 2 hits with 2 homers and 6 RBI and Brandon McPherson 2 hits for Marmion (5-7, 1-3).

Elgin Academy 5, Whitney Young 3: Ethan Plantz, Ethan Hill and Colin Konicek (RBI) each had 2 hits for the Hilltoppers (13-3) in their nonconference win. Jordan Hare had 2 RBI for EA and Reece Zonts a double and an RBI. CJ Carani earned the win allowing 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks.

Harvest Christian 21, Alden-Hebron 1: In Game 1 of a NAC doubleheader, Dayne Frederick (2 hits, 2 RBI), Brock Wilken (3 hits, 3B, 4 RBI), Jack Nohava (2 triples, 3 RBI), Dylan Lockwood (2 hits, 2 RBI), Zach Pawelek (3 hits, 2B, HR, 4 RBI), Dominik Olesch (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Isaac Martinez (2B) led the Lions to the win.
