Boys lacrosse: Scislowski positions Schaumburg for success against Conant

Schaumburg boys lacrosse coach Joe Carey made a move that he thought would jump start the Saxons' offense.

Carey moved junior attacker Chris Scislowski behind the net.

The move paid off in a big way for the Saxons on Thursday night at Gary Scholz Stadium in Schaumburg.

Scislowski scored 3 goals and more importantly had 8 assists in the Saxons' 16-3 win over Conant in the Mid-Suburban West.

The win ups Schaumburg's record to 6-7 and 3-0 in conference play. Conant fell to 3-9 and 0-2.

Schaumburg's win sets up a showdown next Thursday at Barrington.

"We moved Chris behind the net because we felt he could make good decisions," said Carey. "After tonight we're going to give him more looks back there going forward."

After Mark Dewees scored the first of his 2 goals for Schaumburg, Conant came right back to score 2 goals within one minute.

Josh Massaro scored for the Cougars with 8:45 left in the first quarter on an assist from Andrew Bittner, which was followed by Connor Francos goal on an assist by Brett Gordon for a 2-1 Conant lead.

"That woke us up" said Scislowski. "Once we scored a few goals that got us going. We had to be more aggressive.

"I started out slow but I kept my head up. I was able to help get the others involved and that helped to extend the game for the offense."

Attacker Jon Sorg scored the first of his 4 goals to the the game at 2 with 7:25 left in the first quarter.

Senior Alec Greenholdt gave the Saxons the lead four minutes later with the first of his 3 goals and assisted on another Sorg goal four minutes later for a 4-2 lead.

The Saxons outscored the Cougars 6-0 in the second period to lead at halftime 10-2. Sorg scored two more goals in the quarter.

Scislowski scored to open the third quarter and assisted on goals by Greenbold and Andrew Feucht for a 13-2 lead.

Franco broke the Conant drought with a goal with 6:16 left in the quarter.

Scislowski scored one goal and assisted on another to finish the quarter leading 16-3.

Lucas Dudek had 8 saves for Schaumburg.

"My defenders did a nice job picking up on their offense," said Dudek. "It was really good. We looked at this game as a must-win because it was a conference game. We were aggressive and we pressed them. When they shot the ball I felt I could make the save."

"We started out well," said Conant coach Nico Vega. "But then we kind of shot ourselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties. They got some scores off of the penalties (4), and then things went downhill. When we had the ball we executed, but we didn't spend a lot of time of offense."
