Baseball: Martinez, West Aurora blank Batavia
Alberto Martinez fired a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks Friday as West Aurora downed Batavia 2-0 in an Upstate Eight Conference baseball game.
Martinez also doubled for the Blackhawks (9-7, 3-4) while JJ Rivera had a double and 2 RBI and Paulo Marovilla added 2 hits.
Blake Carlson and Jake Haefer had the only hits for Batavia (10-7, 7-5). Carlson suffered the loss despite allowing just 5 hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Geneva 4, Larkin 0: Tyler Vernditti had 2 doubles and earned the win in relief as Geneva (9-6, 6-4) won in the UEC River. Graham Radabuagh had 2 RBI for the Vikings. Jackson Reuter and Kobe Mounivong had the only hits for Larkin (7-11, 4-8).
Huntley 19, Dundee-Crown 0: Michael Talesky (2 RBI) and Kamrin Hoffmann hit home runs for Huntley (14-4, 6-3) in its Fox Valley Conference win. Also adding to the Red Raiders' offense were Jordan Goldstein (2 hits), Anthony Zak (2B, 4 RBI), Matt Rodriguez (2 hits), Zach Model (2 RBI). Hunter Rumachik went 4 innings for the win, allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk.
Jacobs 7, Maine South 6: Hunter Koza (2 hits, 2 RBI) squeezed home Matt Camp with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Jacobs (10-5) won this nonconference game, Liam Oreskovich had 2 doubles for the Golden Eagles and Spencer Foulks drove in 2 runs.
Kaneland 22, Rockford Christian 2: Nick Ortegel and Zach Farris each had 2 hits with a double and 4 RBI and Jon Alstott added 2 hits and 4 RBI to lead Kaneland (13-3) to a nonconference win. Luke Gomes (2B, 2 RBI) and Robbie Dudzinski (2 RBI) also contributed for the Knights. Alex Buchanan was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk over 5 innings.
