Softball: Bengston's bat helps Grant best Grayslake Central
Erin Bengston homered, singled and knocked in 4 runs, and Grant's softball team defeated host Grayslake Central 7-5 in a Northern Lake County Conference showdown on Wednesday.
Liz Schram was 3-for-4 for Grant (11-5, 4-1), which also got 2 hits apiece from Megan Mitchell and Calista Warmowski (2 RBI). Becca Fabry contributed a double.
Grayslake Central (11-6, 6-2) received a 3-run homer from Morgan Smigielski and a 2-run shot from Nicole Buerger.
Antioch 9, Lakes 1: The visiting Sequoits stayed hot, as Ashlyn Sundell (2-for-5, double, RBI), Piper Foote (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Katie Sorenson (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI) led an 11-hit attack in Northern Lake County Conference action.
Megan Lawrence had a double and 2 RBI for Antioch (11-5, 5-1), which won for the 11th time in 12 games. Sequoits sophomore Jerianne Bonaguidi pitched all 7 innings, allowing 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out five.
Rachel Becker (2-for-4) doubled twice for Lakes.
Wauconda 20, Round Lake 8: Hannah Miller went 4-for-4 with 5 RBI, Angelica Cho was 3-for-5 with 4 runs scored, and the Bulldogs won the Northern Lake County Conference slugfest.
Wauconda also got 2 hits apiece from Julia Fohlmeister (2 RBI) and Kayla Serio (RBI). Serio, Jackie Johnson and Sydney Rodgers all doubled.
For Round Lake, Charla Ryan (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Brianna Negrete McGinley (2-for-4, 3 RBI) both homered and doubled. Emily Etherington was 2-for-3.
Carmel 13, St. Viator 0: Bella Anichini was 4-for-4 with a double and 5 RBI, as the Corsairs beat the Lions for the second day in a row in East Suburban Catholic Conference action.
Jordan Swiatkowski went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI for Carmel (14-5, 4-0). Sydney Schuda pitched all 5 innings for the Corsairs, striking out 12 and allowing only 1 hit.
Warren 10, Lake Zurich 0: Kayla Nommensen homered twice and finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, as the Blue Devils won in six innings to remain undefeated in North Suburban Conference action.
Claire Swedberg (double, 2 RBI) and Caitlyn Britton (homer, double, RBI) were also 3-for-4 for Warren (13-1, 6-0). Becca Geiyer also homered for the Blue Devils, and Lydia Gratz and Ashlyn Kitter (2 RBI) both had a double. Britton allowed 1 hit over 4 innings to earn the win.
Julia Zaucha (double) and Elizabeth Chialdikas had the only hit for Lake Zurich.
Libertyville 16, Waukegan 2: Winning pitcher Amanda Page went 3-for-4 with a double, Hannah Hiscox had a homer and 4 RBI, and the Wildcats won big in North Suburban Conference action.
Libertyville (11-5, 4-2) also got a 3-for-4 effort from Lexie Hill. Hiscox and Chloe Bleck (2 RBI) were both 2-for-3, and Emily Hilldale was 2-for-2 with a double.
Zion-Benton 9, Stevenson 8: The Zee-Bees got a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the North Suburban Conference game.
Maggie O'Brien homered, doubled and drove in 2 runs for Stevenson. Gwen Heilman, Gina Shanley, Hailey Peterson and Haley Barnes also doubled.
