Baseball: Big-time effort from Constertina helps BG past Elk Grove

TJ Constertina tossed a big-league-worthy complete game as visiting Buffalo Grove pulled out a 6-4 victory against Elk Grove in 9 innings in Mid-Suburban East baseball on Wednesday.

Constertina threw 106 pitches, with 78 of them for strikes. He struck out nine, and only 1 of the 4 runs he allowed was earned.

The game was tied at 4-4 after Elk Grove produced a 3-run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning. Buffalo Grove won it with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth.

Mac Camardo finished 2-for-3 with a double and drove in 2 runs for the MSL East leaders, who improved to 15-3 overall and 8-0 in the division.

Zach Fricke and Riley Rundquist also had 2 hits apiece for the Bison.

Justin Post hit a 3-run homer in the fifth for Elk Grove (5-7-1, 2-3). Ryne Singsank went 3-for-4 with a triple, and Josh Periaswamy had 2 hits.

Prospect 13, Rolling Meadows 2 (6 inn.): The visiting Knights picked up their third MSL East win in as many days with a dominant performance.

Jack Ankony started for the Knights (10-6, 3-3) and went the full 6 innings, striking out six with no walk and 4 hits.

The top two spots in the order for Prospect finished 7-for-9 with 7 runs scored. Leadoff man Richie Baczek was 4-for-5 with a double, and John Czeslawski went 3-for-4.

Ryan Howe was 2-for-4 and drove in 4 runs, and Nick Ergastolo had 2 hits, including a double.

Jacob Johnson-Wright had a pair of hits for Rolling Meadows (5-9-1, 3-4), and Nate Pardini drove in both Mustangs runs with a double.

Fremd 11, Schaumburg 1: The visiting Vikings got all of their scoring over the final four innings in picking up an MSL West win.

Ashton Statz pitched the first 6 innings for Fremd (8-7, 3-5), striking out seven and allowing 4 hits and 3 walks.

Will Josten homered and drove in 3 runs for the Vikings. Tom Cermak had a pair of hits, and Connor Giusti went 2-for-3 with a double.

Jack Lancaster drove in the lone run for Schaumburg (3-11, 1-6).

Palatine 11, Hoffman Estates 7: Matt Helms doubled and tripled on his way to a 2-for-3 finish with a walk and 3 runs scored to power the host Pirates in MSL West action.

Luke Stoffel went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot and drove in 4 runs for Palatine (13-8, 5-2), and Josh Stitt (triple) and Max Myszka had 2 hits apiece.

Pirates starter Joshua Rivera allowed 3 runs in 5 innings, but none of the runs were earned as Palatine was able to overcome 6 errors.

Kyle Krogstad and Tom Curcio provided some pop at the bottom of the order for Hoffman Estates (4-9, 0-6). Krogstad was 2-for-3 and Curcio went 3-for-4.

Wheeling 9, Hersey 2: The visiting Wildcats trailed 2-0 after the fourth inning but finished in style, getting 1 run in the fifth, 3 in the sixth and finishing with 5 in the seventh.

Drew Roberts doubled, finishing 3-for-5 with 4 RBI to lead the way for Wheeling (8-8, 1-4). Cade Zalewski and Cade Kaplan had 2 hits apiece and leadoff man Kyle Bullock scored twice.

Patrick Cooney went the distance for the Wildcats, allowing 5 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Dan Kubsik had the only extra-base hit for Hersey (7-12-1, 4-4), a double.
