Baseball: Dir helps direct a Carmel victory

Charley Dir went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored 3 runs to lead Carmel Catholic's baseball team to a 10-0 victory over St. Patrick in East Suburban Catholic Conference play Monday.

Sean Lynch added 2 hits, including a double, and Brandon Banker drove in 3 runs.

Pitcher Jay Ward got the win for Carmel, which improved to 9-3 overall.

Grayslake Central 5, University High 3: Grayslake Central traveled to 117th street on the south side of Chicago to play University High at Ray Croc field and in doing so picked up its 15th win of the season against no losses.

Alex Berry led the 13-hit attack with a double and single. Joey Webster added a pair of singles and Colton Kugler, Tony Neuman and Tony Crews all had doubles.

Tyler Marson and Jack Fortmann combined pitching duties with Marson getting the win as he tossed the first 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 3 strikeouts. Fortmann allowed no runs over the final 3 innings and struck out three.

Libertyville 3, Stevenson 0: Pitcher Riley Gowens was on fire for Libertyville, rolled up 14 strikeouts in 6⅓ innings. He also allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk.

Tommy Rigali, Benjamin Arnold, Tanner Kelly and Nick Angel each had 2 hits for the Wildcats.

Stevenson was plagued by 4 errors.

Warren 4, Mundelein 1: Pitcher Evan Hill got the win and helped his cause with a home run in North Suburban Conference play.

Mundelein got a double from T.J. Yakimisky.

Warren improves to 11-5.

Lake Zurich 2, Lake Forest 1: Winning pitcher Ben Cornelius had 5 strikeouts in 2 innings to lead Lake Zurich.

Josh Anderson had 2 hits for the Bears.

Antioch 14, Round Lake 4: Sean Weiser had 3 hits to lead Antioch.

Wyatt Hill had 3 hits for Round Lake.

Wauconda 2, Lakes 0: Winning pitcher Brock Glavey rolled up 5 strikeouts in seven innings for Wauconda.

Joe Glassey led Lakes with a double.
