Baseball: Carmel splits conference doubleheader with Marian

Carmel Catholic's baseball team split its East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader with Marian Catholic on Saturday, winning the first game 3-1 and losing the second 6-5.

In the first game, Austin Ehren had a double, an RBI and scored 2 runs while Lukas Galdoni also drove in a run.

Pitcher Drew Wiegman got the win. In the second game, Galdoni and Jimmy Tarzon each had 2 hits.

Stevenson 15, Zion-Benton 1: Matthew Dutler had 2 doubles and Caleb Evans had 2 hits, including a double, to lead Stevenson, which rolled up 10 hits. Zion-Benton scored its only run in the first inning. Winning pitcher Ari Gordon had 2 strikeouts in two innings.

Vernon Hills swept: Reavis swept Vernon Hills, 5-2, 7-2. Josh Boyer had 2 hits in each game for Vernon Hills.

In the 5-2 loss, Derek Jarrell made the start for Vernon Hills. He threw 5⅔ innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits while striking out three and walking three. Vernon Hills dropped to 7-8-1 on the season.

Wheeling 10, Round Lake 0 (5 inn.): DJ Godlewski homered and doubled to help the Wildcats make quick work of the Panthers in nonconference play. Starter Joe Jordan allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts in 4 innings to get the win for Wheeling.

Grayslake Central 7, McHenry 5: The host Rams were outhit 10-6 by McHenry but made the most of their 6 hits in a come from behind 7-5 victory running their record to 14-0 to start the season.

McHenry led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but the Rams scored 5 runs to take a 7-5 lead.

Max Snowden, Tony Neuman and Tony Crews all had RBI hits in the 5-run fifth with Neuman and Crews each driving in a pair of runs. Snowden led the Rams with 2 hits including a double.

McHenry threatened in both the sith and seventh innings, but the Rams turned a pair of nice double plays to preserve the victory.

Junior Tyler Marson, the third of 4 Central pitchers to throw earned his first career varsity win. Kevin O'Brien tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh inning in picking up the save.

Grayslake North 4, Lakes 3: Grayslake North scored the winning run in the 11th inning. Nick Lovitsch went 4-for-6 at the plate to lead Grayslake North.

Grant 14, Deerfield 6: Nolan Unger and Danny Laughery each had 3 hits for Grant. Winning pitcher Chris Nesterowicz gave up 2 earned runs over three innings.

Hononegah 5, Wauconda 4: Hononegah scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Wauconda had 13 hits, including 4 from Doug Antonucci.

Mundelein 12, Waukegan 0: Pitcher TJ Yakimisky got the win for Mundelein. He got 5 strikeouts over three innings.
