Softball: Big, late comeback lifts Libertyville

Libertyville's softball team scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Mundelein 4-3 in North Suburban Conference action on Friday.

Winning pitcher Amanda Page allowed 2 earned runs in a complete-game effort. Chloe Bleck's RBI double tied the score, and Hannah Hiscox had the game-winning at-bat. Sarah Hoyer was 2-for-4 and Sarah Bennett wenr 2-or-3 for Libertyville (7-5).

Page struck out five and didn't walk a batter.

Kaitlyn Griffin hit a 2-run homer for Mundelein in the first inning.

Grant 12, Elk Grove 6: Erin Bengston was 4-for-5 with a homer, 3 doubles and 2 RBI, as the Bulldogs won in nonconference action.

Liz Schram and Bella Conticello also homered for Grant. Meghan Chapman went 3-for-5 with a double for the Bulldogs, who also got multiple-hit games from Schram (2-for-5, double, 4 RBI), Megan Mitchell (double) and Sydney Goessele (2 RBI). Calista Warmowski had a double.

Grayslake Central 16, Rolling Meadows 1: Grace Bradley stayed red-hot, hitting 2 homers and driving in 7 runs, as the Rams rolled in the Mustang Stampede contest.

Brown, who also pitched a 6-inning complete game, has 6 home runs on the season.

Elisa Koshy was 5-for-5 with a homer and 2 RBI, and Morgan Smigielski was 4-for-5 with a double and triple for Grayslake Central (9-4). The other offensive contributors included Brooke Heraty (2-for-4), Lexi Waigand (3-for-5, double, 3 RBI), Libby Bien (2-for-3, double) and Nicole Buerger (double, 2 stolen bases).

Grayslake North 14, Stevenson 13: The visiting Knights hung on for the nonconference victory at Stevenson, as Grace Brown went 3-for-4 with her fourth homer in three games, a double, walk and 5 RBI.

Brown's homer, a 3-run shot in the first, was her fifth on the season.

Grayslake North sophomore Nina Wittig hit her first varsity home run. Freshmen Meghan Delahunty (2) and Jessica Pozezinski (3) combined for 5 doubles. Scout Kram (2-for-3, 2 walks, 2 stolen bases) and Faith Standerski (2-for-4, triple, 2 RBI, 2 stolen bases, walk) added 2 hits each. Caitlin Barenbaum (stolen base), Jelly Diaz and Gracie Moats all had singles. The Knights finished with 10 extra-base hits.

For the Patriots, Hailey Barnes (2-for-4) homered. Gwen Heilman hit a triple, and Hailey Peterson (2-for-5) doubled. Maggie Trotter finished 3-for-4, while Maggie Lippman was 2-for-3. Eight starters for the Patriots had hits.

Antioch 9, Vernon Hills 8: Piper Foote (3-for-5, 2 doubles) and Deighton Butenschoen (3-for-4, double, 3 RBI) led a 15-hit attack for the visiting Sequoits, who broke an 8-8 tie in the sixth inning of the nonconference game.

Antioch (5-5) also got contributions offensively from Ashlyn Sundell (2-for-4), Kaylee Schreiner (2-for-5, double, RBI), Abby Pyburn (2-for-5) and Megan Lawrence (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI, stolen base).

Mollie Wagner allowed 1 hit and no runs in 2⅔ innings to pick up the win.

Vernon Hills was paced by Nicole Pieper (3-for-4, 2 triples, RBI), Delaney Bowen (2-for-3, double, RBI), Tatiana Guletsky (2-for-3, double, RBI) and Madison Johnson (2-for-3, triple, double, 2 RBI).

Warren 11, Wauconda 0: Carissa Topolinski was 2-for-2 with a triple, double and 2 RBI, and Kayla Nommensen went 2-for-3 with a homer ans 4 RBI for the Blue Devils in their nonconference win.

Warren (9-1) also gor 2-for-3 efforts from Trenise Powe and Taylor McIntosh, while Claire Swedberg had a triple.

Lydia Gratz pitched a 5-inning complete game, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 11 with no walks.

Kayla Serio (1-for-2) had the lone hit for Wauconda.

Zion-Benton 9, Lake Zurich 4: The Bears lost the North Suburban Conference games, despite getting home runs from Haley Gajewski and Abby Jokerst.

Elizabeth Chialdikas tripled for Lake Zurich.

Zion-Benton's Ashley Zappa was 4-for-5 with 2 doubles.
