Baseball: St. Edward sweeps Guerin

Jack Olson homered, doubled and had 3 RBI Friday to lead St. Edward to a 7-2 Metro Suburban Conference baseball win over Guerin.

Mike Lopez added a double and 2 RBI for the Green Wave and Daniel Falco had a double.

Matthew Schimbke picked up the win on the mound, allowing 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks.

St. Edward (4-13, 2-3) then swept the doubleheader with a 5-2 win in Game 2.

Winning pitcher Mike Lopez, who allowed 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks in a complete game effort, had a double for the Wave and Jake Middleton added a double.

Kaneland 4, DeKalb 0: Robbie Dudzinski allowed just 3 hits with 9 strikeouts and 3 walks over 6⅔ innings as Kaneland (7-3, 2-1) won this Northern Illinois Big XII East game. Zach Farris had a double for the Knights.

Geneva, Larkin split: Ian Hanson had 3 hits with a double and 4 RBI to lead Geneva to a 14-3 Upstate Eight River win, after the Vikings fell 9-7 in a game that was suspended last week. In the win, Dominic Guido (2B), Nathan Dewey (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Josh Rose (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Max Cannon (2B, 2 RBI) also contributed for Geneva (3-8, 1-3), which used three pitchers to allow Larkin just 4 hits. Jackson Reuter had 2 hits for the Royals (6-6, 2-4).

St. Charles North 14, Bartlett 0: Patrick Bellock (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Justin Dunne (HR, 2 RBI), Egon Hein (2 hits, 2 RBI), Erik Larson (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) and Ryan Thiese (2 RBI) led SCN (7-1-1, 3-0-1) to a UEC crossover win. Nick Skurka picked up the win for the North Stars, allowing the Hawks (2-6, 1-1) just 3 hits over four innings. He had 5 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Glenbard East 11, Elgin 3: Jack Sitter had 2 hits and an RBI and Cameron Jackson a double for Elgin (2-12, 0-7) in its UEC loss.

Cary-Grove 1, McHenry 0: Ryan Ignoffo's double in the third inning drove home Tristan Atkins with the game's only run as Cary-Grove (10-2-1, 5-2) won this Fox Valley Conference game. Alex Reichman went 6⅔ innings allowing 8 hits with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win for the Trojans. Ignoffo came on to get the last out of the game and the save.

CL Central 5, Hampshire 2: Andrew Krajecki had an RBI for Hampshire (7-8, 1-6) in its FVC loss.

CL South 13, Dundee-Crown 6: Beiker Fuentes had 2 hits with a double and 3 RBI while Evan Jewson doubled and had 3 RBI to lead the Gators (5-5, 3-0) to this FVC win. Also contributing for Crystal Lake South were Kyle Hetherington (2 hits, 2B), Noah Tyrell (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI) and Henry Tipton (2 RBI). For Dundee-Crown (3-9, 2-4), Nick Gregory (2 hits, 2B), Erik Hedmark (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Evan Wenc (2B), Jack Waldron (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Zach Hahn (2 RBI) led the offense.

Burlington Central 9, Woodstock 3: Colton Wallace had 3 hits with a double and 2 RBI to lead the Rockets (8-5, 5-0) to a Kishwaukee River win. Also contributing at the plate for BC were Paddy McKermitt (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI), Ryan Knowlton (2B, RBI) and Braden Seyller (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI). Tyler Perez was the winning pitcher.

Westminster Christian 12, Schaumburg Christian 1: In the Northeastern Athletic Conference, Matthew Schulenburg had 4 hits with 2 doubles and 4 RBI for Westminster (6-7, 2-1). Theron Dorsey and Sam Huguley each added 2 hits and 2 RBI and Andrew Kurcz had 2 hits and an RBI. Dorsey was the winning pitcher allowing no hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4 innings of work.

Freeport Aquin 5, Harvest Christian 4: Dylan Lockwood, Zach Pawelek (2B, RBI) and Joey Pepper (RBI) had 2 hits each for Harvest (7-5, 4-3) in its NAC loss. Grant Young added a double and an RBI and Dayne Frederick had a triple for the Lions.

Elgin Academy 11, North Shore Country Day 0: Christian Rodriguez (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Reece Zonts (2B, 2 RBI), Jonathan Cruz (2 hits, 2 RBI), Ethan Plantz (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Jordan Hare (2 hits, 2B, RBI) and Ethan Hill (2 hits, 2B, RBI) led the Elgin Academy offense in this Independent School League game. CJ Carani and Cruz combined on a 2-hitter for the Hilltoppers (8-2, 2-0).
