Softball: Geneva slips past West Aurora

Ali Dierks allowed just 5 hits and had a triple at the plate as Geneva's softball team downed West Aurora 3-2 Thursday in an Upstate Eight crossover game.

Katie Keller added a double for the Vikings, who moved to 9-2 on the season and 5-1 in the UEC.

Janae Holloway homered for West Aurora (2-6, 2-2) and Shai Erdrich had a double. Gab Drager suffered the loss despite allowing only 1 earned run.

St. Charles North 12, West Chicago 1: In a UEC crossover, Jillian Waslawski allowed 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and a walk as the North Stars (6-2, 3-1) prevailed in five innings. Leading the SCN offense were Alyssa Eby (2 RBI), Grace Quinn (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Grace Sobieski (2B, RBI) and Laine VanderHer (2 hits, 3 RBI).

Batavia 14, Elgin 0: Sammi Wicks allowed 2 hits with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks and added 2 hits of her own to lead Batavia (5-7, 3-2) to a UEC River win. Kaylan Waldron had a double and an RBI for the Bulldogs and as did Molly Costigan. Caitlyn Keith and Abby Sensor doubled for Elgin.

Dundee-Crown 7, McHenry 2: Sydney Ruggles fired a 3-hitter, allowing no earned runs with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks as the Chargers (4-6, 2-1) won this Fox Valley Conference game. Claire Weeks had 3 hits and an RBI, Deanna Origer 2 hits and Andrea Conway a home run to lead the D-C offense.

Jacobs 3, Cary-Grove 1: Katie Armstrong threw a 5-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead Jacobs (5-3, 2-1) to a FVC win. Jess Mrzlak had 2 hits and an RBI for the Golden Eagles while Kerri Healy added a double and Gaby Silva 2 hits. Alina Krembuszewski had 2 hits for Cary-Grove (7-2, 3-1). Emma Hill took the loss.

CL South 12, CL Central 5: Emily Sulikowski had 3 hits with a home run, double and 2 RBI and Carly Chovanec added 3 hits with a triple and an RBI to lead the Gators (5-2, 1-1) to a FVC win. Winning pitcher Christina Toniolo (HR, 3 RBI), Baylee Kassel (2 hits), Brooke Kuffel (2 hits, 2B), Alyssa Niketopoulos (2B) and Skylar Olsen (2 RBI) also contributed for Crystal Lake South.
