"After a slow start to Set 1 (down 5-0), we eased back into playing our game and adjusted to Hersey's big attackers and giant block," Wildcats coach Jenny Smith said. "Our boys did a great job reading the attack and adjusting our block and defense to gain control of this match."

Evanston d. Mundelein: The Wildkits prevailed 27-25, 26-24 in the nonconference match.

Mundelein (1-1) got 6 kills apiece from Marc Rey and Eric Morales. Ben Arebalo had 15 digs, while Steven Miritello dished out 23 assists. Miritello and Abram Nazario each had 4 kills.

Buffalo Grove d. Lake Zurich: Brian Franz served 14 of 14 with 1 ace and hit 17 of 24 with 9 kills, as the Bison won 25-22, 21-25, 25-15 in nonconference action.

"Lake Zurich has a solid team that will be very competitive this season," Buffalo Grove coach Tim Kosiek said. "As for us, compared to our previous match, we had a much more consistent night serving and receiving, which allowed for better offensive opportunities. It was an important match as the team continues to grow."
