Girls track: Palatine, Prospect win divisional tests

The Palatine girls track and field team took top honors in the Mid-Suburban West divisional meet hosted by the Pirates on Tuesday.

Palatine (206 points) and runner-up Barrington (182) were both dominant in their performances. Schaumburg was third at 98.5, followed by Hoffman Estates (77), Fremd (67.5) and Conant (67).

Senior Erin Oleksak was a double winner for Palatine, claiming the 100 hurdles by a wide margin (15.83) and the 300s in 50.11. Senior Jess Streepy cleared 10 feet, 3 inches to win the pole vault.

Senior Tiana Henderson and sophomore Dejah Thomas gave Palatine a 1-2 finish in the 100-meter dash. Likewise, in the 1,600, it was junior Kate Lechowicz (5:25.19) and freshman Anne Marie Jordan (5:25.25), and in high jump, freshman Anja Ball (5-2) and sophomore Sarah Elischer (5-0) finishing 1-2.

The Pirates also picked up wins in the 4 x 100 relay (51.12) and the 4 x 200 relay (1:50.63).

Barrington's winners included Gabby Cossio in the 200 (27.65), freshman Molly FitzPatrick in the 3,200 (11:03.43) and the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays.

Senior Maddie Marasco won the 800 in 2:15.57, and Schaumburg also had the top effort in the triple jump from Jackie Williams (34-9).

Anna Miller of Hoffman Estates won the 400 in 1:01.65. The Hawks were especially strong in the field events, where Makiyha Blackwell won the shot put (38-2.5) and Christian Wood won discus (112-8).

Conant freshman Jessica Malecki leaped to the front of the pack with a 15-4 effort in the long jump.

Prospect wins East Division meet: A clean sweep of the relay events helped the Knights come out on top at Wheeling. Prospect finished with 227 points, with the Wildcats second at 185.

Hersey (128.5) grabbed third, ahead of Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove.

Prospect had plenty of success individually as well, getting victories from Eve Anzalone in the hurdles (17.59) and Julia O'Grady in the 1,600 (5:23.46).

Wheeling's winners were Nicole Nguyen in the long jump (17-9) and 300 hurdles (51.07), Nosa Igiehon in the triple jump (34-7¾), Christina Pierini in the 3,200 (11:51.79), Yailene Leon in the 800 (2:18.55) and Alexis Knight in the 400 (59.41).

Buffalo Grove senior Nya Carr was a double winner, with wins in the 100 (12.49) and 200 (26.00).

Hersey's winners were Alessia Olhava in high jump (5-2) and Barbara Rydzewski in discus (115-4), and Rolling Meadows' Kameliya Mladenova won the pole vault (9-0).
