Baseball: Aurora Central nips Ridgewood
Chris Cartwright doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning Tuesday as the Aurora Central Catholic baseball team defeated Ridgewood 4-3 in a Metro Suburban Conference game.
Cartwright had 2 hits and an RBI in the win for the Chargers (11-3, 3-1) while Mac Doherty (2 hits) and Mikey Elliott (2B) also contributed to the offense.
Kyle Czerak went four innings in relief of Doherty to earn the win, allowing 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and no walks.
Batavia 14, Larkin 0: Jared Martin had a double and 4 RBI while Justin Pelley added 2 hits with a triple and 2 RBI to lead Batavia (7-3, 4-1) to an Upstate Eight River win. Carter Gette had 2 RBI and Michael Niemiec added a double for the Bulldogs. Brad Niedzwiedz was the winning pitcher, allowing just 4 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. Cy Kerber had a double for Larkin (5-4, 2-2).
St. Charles East 11, Elgin 0: Charlie Carpenter hit a grand slam home run, Clay Conn had 2 hits with a double and an RBI and Kyle Hayes a triple and 4 RBI to lead the Saints (4-4, 2-1) to this UEC River win. Ryan Richa (2B, RBI) and Thomas Schroeder (2B) also contributed. Jeremy Cox pitched 3 of the of the 5 innings to earn the win, allowing 2 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks. Michael Nash and Kejuan Harvey had the only hits for Elgin (2-10, 0-5).
Glenbard East 2, West Aurora 1: Despite getting a no-hitter from Dustin Tomas, the Blackhawks (6-4, 0-1) fell in the UEC Valley. Tomas struck out six and walked two. Cam Zimmerman had a double and an RBI for West Aurora and JJ Rivera added 2 hits.
