Softball: St. Viator tops Glenbrook South

St. Viator's softball team was seeing 20/20 despite the cold and rainy conditions on Friday in Arlington Heights.

The host Lions (2-11) pounded out 20 hits and scored 20 runs in a 20-9 nonconference win over Glenbrook South.

Freshman Gianna Saverino earned her first varsity win, allowing 3 runs in 3 relief innings.

"Gianna got roughed up a little bit in our Thursday game (a loss to Rolling Meadows), but l was very proud of how she bounced back, especially in these conditions," said Lions coach John Scotillo.

The Lions' offense was led by Maggie VanValkenburg (4 hits, 4 RBI) and Haley Robinson (4 hits, 3 RBI) and Cece Kaiser (4 hits, 2 RBI).

Morgan Bielfeldt (4 RBI) belted a home run for one of her 3 hits.

Nicole Ardito (4 RBI) and Annie Sweeney each had a couple of hits while Mary Naughton and Marissa Zanon had one apiece.

The Lions also got news that senior pitcher Jessica Taylor, who injured her knee earlier in the week, will not require surgery and hopes to back before the season is over.
