Girls soccer: Jacobs wins in PepsiCo again

The Jacobs girls soccer team advanced to the PepsiCo Showdown U.S. Marine Corps championship after downing Wheaton North 1-0 Thursday in Algonquin.

Kelsey Medina provided the game's only score in the first half. The No. 5 Golden Eagles (6-2-2), who ran their win streak to 6 games, will take on No. 16 Eisenhower, which downed No. 4 CL South 4-2 in another semifinal.

Eisenhower 4, CL South 2: The Gators couldn't make it an all-FVC PepsiCo final thanks to 2 Cardinal goals in the second half. Jillian Brokhof and Cam Sengstock found the net for South (3-4).

Batavia 1, Downers North 0: The win streak continued for the Bulldogs in nonconference action thanks to Zaira Solis, who scored the game-winner with just 2 minutes left in the match. Batavia (8-1-1), which has outscored its opponents 15-0 in the last 5 games, increased its win streak to 8 in its fifth straight shutout.

Geneva 1, Bartlett 0: Stephanie Howe provided the only scoring in an Upstate Eight crossover win for the Vikings (5-3-1). Howe scored the goal in the 48th minute on an assist from Sydney Gratz, set up by Jenna Dominguez. Goalkeeper Katie Montgomery's third shoutout of the year came on 4 saves.

Elgin 1, Morton 0: Makenna Downing notched an unassisted goal in the second half of a PepsiCo win for the Maroons (4-6). Joana Mercado earned a shutout in goal with 5 saves.

Huntley 1, Maine West 0: In PepsiCo action, Alyssa Xanos' goal in the 65th minute off Avery Fitzgerald's assist was good enough for the Red Raiders (4-4-1). Keepers Jenna Franklin and Ashley Lovins each provided 3 saves each to garner a shutout.

Warren 4, Dundee-Crown 3: Although Katelyn Skibinski supplied 2 goals, the Chargers (5-5) were unable to come away with a PepsiCo tournament win. Della Griffin also provided a goal while Anna Kieltyka added 1 assist.

Cary-Grove 6, McHenry 0: In FVC action, keeper Lauren Passaglia garnered a 2 save shutout for the Trojans (2-2-2, 1-1) in Fox Valley action. Maggie Mason led C-G in scoring with 2 goals while Katie Glowinski (2 assists), Kelly Stayart (1 assist), Jenna Stayart and Kailyn Sheehan also added goals. Kelli Ives accounted for 1 assist.
