Softball: Lakes pulls out a tough one with Grant

Lakes' softball team built a big lead against visiting Grant on Tuesday, then had to hang on to capture the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Molly Dietz had a pair of hits for the Eagles, who won 9-8 after building a 9-0 lead. Grant scored 4 runs in the sixth inning and again in the seventh.

The Bulldogs got 2 hits apiece from Calista Warmowski, Sydney Goessele (2 RBI), Ivy Clark (3 RBI) and Maddy Nourigat. Erin Bengston (1-for-4), Goessele and Becca Fabry all doubled.

Libertyville 14, Stevenson 4: Sarah Hoyer and Julia Zinkewich were both 3-for-4, as the Wildcats won in North Suburban Conference action.

Hoyer doubled twice and drove in 4 runs. Libertyville also got 2 hits apiece from Chloe Bleck (double, 3 RBI) and Sarah Bennett.

Winning pitcher Amanda Page (4-3) allowed 2 earned runs over 4 innings.

Lake Zurich 14, Lake Forest 0: Stephanie Keefe pitched a 5-inning complete game, leading the visiting Bears to the North Suburban Conference win.

Lake Zurich (3-4, 2-0) had 13 hits, including a pair each from Julia Zaucha, Haley Gajewski, Nina Kolb and Olivia Collins (2 RBI). Elizabeth Chialdikas tripled, and the Bears received doubles from Keefe, Kolb and CeCe Cunnion.

Keefe allowed only 1 hit, a double to Hannah Atchley.

Antioch 12, Grayslake Central 4: Piper Foote was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, as the host Sequoits captured the Northern Lake County Conference game for their third win in a row.

Antioch (3-4, 1-1) also got offensive contributions from Avery Malicki (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Katie Sorenson (2-for-3, double, RBI), Kayla Burkhart (2-for-3, double, RBI), Deighton Butenschoen (triple, 2 RBI) and Ashlyn Sundell (1-for-1, 2 RBI, walk, stolen base). Jerianne Bonaguidi went the distance in the circle, striking out six, walking three and allowing 5 hits.

Grayslake Central (3-4, 1-1) got home runs from Grace Bradley and Elisa Koshy and doubles from Brooke Heraty (RBI) and Lexi Waigand (RBI).

Grayslake North 18, Round Lake 1: The Knights won their Northern Lake County Conference opener to improve to 3-1.

Alyssa Carr (3-for-4, double, RBI), Meghan Delahunty (3-for-4, double, RBI, 2 stolen bases), Evan Garrett (2-for-4, RBI) and Gracie Moats (2-for-4, 5 RBI, stolen base) all had multiple hits for the Knights. Faith Standerski (4 RBI, walk) and Grace Brown (RBI, 2 walks) both contributed doubles. All 9 hitters for the Knights had at least 1 hit.

Sophomore Scout Kram collected her first varsity win, scattering 6 hits to go along with 8 strikeouts.

For the Panthers, Lilly Larson (2-for-2), Kaley Greenwood, Bri McGinley (walk), Lina Navarrete and Emily Etherington all had singles. Yareli Sanchez collected the lone RBI for the Panthers.

Wauconda sweeps North Chicago: The Bulldogs won a pair of four-inning games in Northern Lake County Conference action, 10-0 and 11-1.

Sydney Rodgers (3-for-3) homered twice, doubled and knocked in 5 runs in the second game to lead Wauconda (2-4, 2-0). Angelica Cho and Julia Fohlmeister also doubled, and winning pitcher Kelly Weller was 2-for-2.

In Game 1, Kayla Serio and Jessica Chapnick threw a combined no-hitter with 8 strikeouts. Emily Weber was 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Fohlmeister (2 RBI) and Cho also doubled.

Vernon Hills 15, Maine East 0: Tatiana Guletsky and Nicole Piper hit home runs for the Cougars in their Central Suburban League North Division game.

Guletsky (3-for-4) also doubled, scored 3 runs and drove in 2 runs, while Pieper had 4 RBI and 2 hits. Vernon Hills also got 2 hits from Brooke Pieper (2 RBI), Elisa Handler (double, 2 RBI, 2 walks) and Rachel Wright (3 runs). Meg Finerty and Mackenzie Mahler (1-for-3) knocked in 2 runs each as well.

Winning pitcher Madison Johnson (3 innings) and Hannah Monteith (2 innings) allowed 1 hit each.
