Girls soccer: St. Charles North reaches PepsiCo semifinals

The St. Charles North girls soccer team won another PepsiCo Showdown matchup Tuesday, downing Plainfield North 6-1 behind Gia Walhberg's 2 goals and 1 assist. The win, which saw Claudia Najera, Sami Rydberg, Kellie Callaghan and Chloe Netzel (2 assists) score goals, advanced top-seeded North (7-0-1) to the semifinals of the U.S. Army bracket. Alyssa Kraft also provided 1 assist and Sara Maleski (1 save) and Nathalie Grier (2 saves) provided protection in goal.

Jacobs 4, Elgin 0: The Golden Eagles (4-2-2) downed the Maroons (3-6) to advance in PepsiCo action thanks to 3 goals in the first half, 2 from Cassie Kowalski, who scored 18 seconds into the match. Baylee Vincent and Morgan Ward also added goals for Jacobs while Hannah Mohan, Dominique Anderson and Kelsey Medina each had assists.

St. Charles East 7, Larkin 0: In Upstate Eight River action, Rose Stackhouse mustered a hat trick of goals while Alessia D'Argento dished out a hat trick of assists in a lopsided win for the Saints. Hannah Miller tallied 2 goals and 1 assist and Kayla Villa and Riley Coine also added goals for East (6-2-3, 2-0). Isabella Albano and Ashley DiOrio each had 1 assist and Grace Griffin needed 1 save for her sixth shutout in goal.

Dundee-Crown 4, Rockford Guilford 1: In PepsiCo consolation action, Genny Rendl provided 1 goal and 2 assists in a win for the Chargers (5-4). Katelyn Skibinski and Anna Kieltyka both offered 1 goal and 1 assist each while Autumn Seaton also scored. D-C keeper Diana Santillan provided 8 saves in goal.

Huntley 2, Glenbard West 1: Avery Fitzgerald and Yetzemany Solis put the Red Raiders (3-4-1) ahead for good with goals to get a win in PepsiCo consolation action. Emma Vasconez and Hannah Scholer added assists while Jenna Franklin (3 saves) and Ashley Lovins (6 saves) split time in net.

CL South 1, DeKalb 0: The Gators (3-3) earned a PepsiCo quarterfinal win with Cam Sengstock's goal in the first half. Abby Wiegand had the only assist and keeper Marissa Fetters recorded a shutout via 7 saves.

West Aurora 3, Riverside-Brookfield 1: In a PepsiCo consolation win, Audrey Stephens led the Blackhawks with 1 goal and 1 assist. Marlene Sanchez and Riley O'Brien also added goals while Oliva McPherson had 1 assist. Goalie Samara Martinez made 5 saves.

Kaneland 1, Yorkville 1: Although the Knights (3-1-1, 0-1-1) went down a goal during the ninth minute, Abbie Lomahan came up with the equalizer in the 33rd minute off an assist from Rachael Lutter.

Hampshire 7, IMSA 0: In nonconference action, the Whips (4-7) received a hat trick from Alyssa Dimaano while Kylie Brodkorb and Mattea Huerta were right behind with 2 goals each.
