Baseball: York, Addison Trail, Willowbrook win

York 4, Lyons Twp. 3:

The Dukes (7-1, 1-0) opened their West Suburban Silver season with a big win over the Lions. Charlie Pakenas pitched into the sixth inning to earn the win. Joey Yaeger and Elliott Achepohl had 2 hits apiece.

Addison Trail 9, Leyden 2:

Complete-game winning pitcher Trevor Fulmer scattered 3 hits and struck out six as the Blazers (4-4, 1-1) rolled in the West Suburban Gold. Simon Marinelli doubled and drove in 4 runs while Angelo Pahopos went 3-for-4.

Willowbrook 4, Morton 0:

Winning pitcher Ryan Mintz allowed 2 hits and struck out eight for the Warriors (5-4, 1-1 West Suburban Gold). Dan Gusel doubled, one of only 3 hits by Willowbrook, and drove in 2 runs.

Neuqua Valley 4, Naperville Central 1:

Noah Herdman and Nick Taylor homered in support of Neuqua Valley (6-0, 1-0) winning pitcher James Kulak, who struck out 13 and allowed 1 hit in 5 innings. Jake Karaba notched the save. Sam Hojnar drove in the lone run for Naperville Central (4-3, 1-1).

Metea Valley 16, Naperville North 5:

Spencer Collins drove in 9 runs, going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a grand slam for the Mustangs (4-2, 1-0 DuPage Valley), who rallied from a 5-3 deficit. Andrew Cronin went the distance in the 5-inning win. Logan Van Poucke homered for Naperville North (5-2, 0-1).

Waubonsie Valley 9, Glenbard North 1:

The Warriors (2-5, 1-0) fell behind 1-0 early in the DuPage Valley game but then scored in the final five innings. Jack Drow tripled and had 3 RBI. Winning pitcher Zach Laws didn't allow an earned run in 6 innings. Anthony Ferreri went 2-for-3 for Glenbard North (4-3, 0-2).

Lake Park 9, WW South 4:

Zach Aehlert tripled and drove in 4 runs for the Lancers (4-2, 1-1) in the DuPage Valley victory. Masen Riser was the winning pitcher in relief of Casey Berner. Patrick McGarry had 2 RBI for WW South (3-3, 1-1).

Glenbard South 6, Fenton 1:

Winning pitcher Ryan Creevy went the distance for the Raiders (4-6, 2-0) in the Metro Suburban victory, striking out nine. John McMahon and Drew Vozza had 2 hits. Nick Atkinson drove in 2 runs. David Burch and Carlos Mercado went 2-for-4 for Fenton (1-5, 0-2).

Wheaton Academy 4, IC Catholic Prep 1:

Winning pitcher Jake Koslosky allowed 3 hits in 6 innings and went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Lisle 14, Plano 2:

The Lions (6-5, 1-0) cruised to the Interstate Eight Conference victory after not scoring in the first three innings. Damien Guerrero, who had 3 hits, and Zach Webber each drove in 3 runs. A.J. Casmer struck out 11 in 6-plus innings.

Montini 10, St. Ignatius 5:

The Broncos (7-4, 1-0) exploded for 5 third-inning runs to win in the Chicago Catholic League. Ryan Nelson went 3-for-4 with 2 homers and 3 RBI. Ben Steiner picked up the win and Bobby Meifert the save.

Glenbard East 5, Wheaton North 4:

The Rams (6-3) held off a late rally from Wheaton North (4-3), which scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh. Winning pitcher Tyler Westerhoff came an out away from the complete-game victory. Ben Campos notched the save. Jimmy Cotteril went 2-for-3. Sam Hacker had 2 RBI for the Falcons.

Benet 4, West Aurora 3:

Andrew Prisby's infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Redwings (4-4) the walk-off victory. Paddy Hincks, who had 3 RBI, Aaron Staehely and Connor Hincks all had 2 hits. Dolan Glasgow was the winning pitcher in relief.

Westmont 5, Seneca 4:

The Sentinels (7-3, 1-1 Interstate Eight) won in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jeff Whitburn stole third and scored the game-winning run on an error. Robbie Burns went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Malek Mostafa was the winning pitcher in relief.
