Luke Stoffel and Mike Nielsen had 2 hits apiece for Palatine's baseball team, but Carmel Catholic jumped ahead early and protected its lead in a 6-3 nonconference decision Thursday.

Austin Ehren finished 3-for-4 with a double for the host Corsairs, and Sean Lynch homered, drove in 2 runs and also walked twice.

Ben Wiegman earned a victory, getting 9 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Nielsen drove in 2 run for the Pirates (7-4).

New Trier 6, Buffalo Grove 4: The host Bison got doubles from TJ Constertina, Zack Fricke and Rio Komatani, but the Trevians scored late to earn a nonconference win.

Komatani had 2 hits and 1 RBI, Mac Camardo walked twice and scored twice and Danny Pocklington also drove in a run for the Bison (4-3).
