Baseball: Prospect gets fourth Florida win

Prospect's baseball team finished its spring break in Florida with its fourth win in Tampa on Wednesday.

Coach Ross Giusti's Knights rode the arms of Jack Ankony (5 innings, 2 hits, 3 strikeouts) and Tyler Priessing (2 innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts) to a 4-1 win over Highland High School (Marengo, OH.).

The defending Mid-Suburban League champs (5-1 overall) were led on offense by Bracken Sullivan (2-for-3), who got the Knights rolling in the 3-run fourth inning with an RBI single.

Teammates Anthony Catalano (2-for-4, RBI) and Anthony Composto (2-for-2, RBI) were also multiple hitters while Richie Baczek went 1-for-3 and Ryan Howe had an RBI.

Hoffman Estates 9, Geneva 4: Dylan Bloom (2-for-5, 2 runs) and Kyle Krogstad (2-for-4, double, 3 RBI) each had multiple hits for the Hawks while Logan Willis, Tom Curcio (double) and Dakota Slingerland (3 RBI) each had 1 hit.

Sam Hebert threw 4⅓ innings for the win as he struck out three and allowed 5 hits.

Leyden 11, Rolling Meadows 8: Alex Duarte (3-for-3, 2 runs, RBI), Nick Herrera (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Christian Tokarz (triple, 3 RBI) and Corey Lavallais (double) were top hitters for visiting Leyden in the nonconference win.

Senior Johnny Auge earned the win, throwing 4⅔ innings with 2 strikeouts and 5 hits.

RM senior Nate Pardini (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) belted a home run and triple while teammates Joe Marcucci homered and Jacob Johnson-Wright doubled.

Oswego 9, Elk Grove 2: Ryne Singsank (2-for-3), Zach Mahoney (1-for-2) and Nick Hoffman (1-for-) had visiting Elk Grove's 4 hits in the nonconference game. Singsank struck out seven while pitching the first four innings.

The two teams then played to a 4-4 tie in five innings. The Grenadiers scored 4 runs in the first, getting 2 RBI from Danny Lugo (2-for-2) and one apiece from Josh Periaswamy (1-for-2, double) and Ethan Bilodeau.

Mark Matos (1-for-3) also had a double for the Grens.

Matt Crimmins threw all five innings, allowing 7 hits and striking out two.

Crystal Lake Central 10, Palatine 0 (5 innings): CLC secured the win with 6 runs in the top of the fifth. The Pirates' 3 hits came off the bats of Luke Stoffel (1-for-2), TJ Skelnik (1-for-2) and Max Myszka (1-for-2), who had a double.

Conant drops two: Stagg topped the visiting Cougars 8-4 and 11-1 in five innings (exhibition).

Conant's Luke VanBooven went 2-for 2 with a double and triple in the exhibition loss.

In the 8-4 loss, the Cougars were led by Jon Bustamante (2-for-3), Jack Reiger (2-for-3, double) and Christian Seegers (2-for-3, double). Quinn Fitzgerald, Tyler Hedman (double) and Sam Ryan also had hits for the Cougars (1-4-1).

Schaumburg falls twice: Visiting Glenbard North stopped the Saxons 2-0 and 5-4.

Jake Bishop had the Saxons' only hit in the 2-0 loss in which Schaumburg employed Adam Kubick (3 strikeouts), Zac Studzinski (2 strikeouts) and Niko Korrecki (2 strikeouts) on the mound. They combined for a 5-hitter.

In the second game, Glenbard North broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning as the Saxons outhit the Panthers 6-5.

Leading Schaumburg was Tyler Robinson (2-for-3) while Ben Kim (RBI) Joe Unger (RBI), Ruan Sakamoto and Peter Kandefer had the other hits. Nick Calip also had an RBI for the Saxons.

Jake Goliher (2 strikeouts), Tyler Slome and Sam Phalen (1 strikeout) shared the pitching duties.
