Softball: Geneva, St. Charles East post wins

Geneva opened its softball season with a 10-4 win Thursday over future DuKane Conference foe Lake Park.

Ali Dierks stuck out eight and walked three, scattering six hits while pitching a complete game.

Katie Keller homered and Katie Geary tripled to lead Geneva's 7-hit attack.

St. Charles East 6, Glenbard North 3: Freshman Katie Arrambide tossed a 3-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 2 walks to lead the Saints to a nonconference win. Maddie Candre had 2 hits and an RBI for SCE while Paige Ligocki added 2 hits and 2 RBI and Krista Sbarra had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI.

Cary-Grove 15, Belvidere North 5: Kelly Johnson had a home run, 2 triples and 3 RBI as the Trojans (3-0) rolled to a nonconference win. Alina Krembuszewski (2 hits, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Emma Hill (2B, RBI), Lindsey Norberg (2B, RBI), Jill Deering (2B, RBI) and Alexis German (2B, RBI) also had good days at the plate for C-G.

CL South 7, Grayslake North 6: Crystal Lake South remained unbeaten behind home runs from Baylee Kassel (2 RBI) and Alyssa Niketopoulos. (3 RBI). Also adding to the offense for the Gators (3-0) were winning pitcher Christina Toniolo (2B), Brooke Kuffel (2B) and Kyra Swartz (RBI).

Huntley 10, Hononegah 0: Marley Reicher (2 hits), Autumn Kasal (2B, 3 RBI), Sofia Tenuta (3 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Paige Berkmeyer (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Quinn Walsh (2 hits, 2B) led the offense for Huntley (4-0) in nonconference play. Tiffany Giese allowed just 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk to pick up the win.

Hampshire 16, Woodstock 3: The Whip-Purs opened their season with a nonconference win as winning pitcher Jasmine Lopez (4 RBI) and Gwen Malecke (2 hits, 3 RBI) each hit home runs. Delaney Rummel (3B), Morgan Haefling (RBI), Miki Snider (2B, RBI), Melissa Esparaza (2 hits, 3 RBI), Sarah Bowen (2 hits, 2 2Bs, RBI), Shai-Ann Currie (2 RBI) and Katie Del Re (2B) all contributed as well. Lopez allowed 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks in 4 innings.

Sycamore 5, Burlington Central 0: Peyton Curtis had a triple and Danielle Yurgil a double for Burlington Central (1-1) in this nonconference loss.

Westminster Christian 22, Timothy Christian 8: Winning pitcher Kristen Mason had 4 hits with a double and 4 RBI for the Warriors in their nonconference win. Rachel Schmitt also had 4 hits and 6 RBI while Drew Randazzo had 3 hits with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Grace Schmitt added 3 hits with a double and 3 RBI.

Rockford East 12, Larkin 1: Delany Newman had a double for Larkin (0-2) in nonconference action.

Smyrna (TN) 3, South Elgin 1: Casey Brennan (2 hits) and McKenna Eicholz (2 hits, RBI) led South Elgin's offense in Tennessee. Sidney Strama took the loss despite allowing just 1 earned run.

Sweet Water (AL) 7, South Elgin 0: Daisy Fuentes had a double for the Storm.
