Girls track: Wheeling nabs MSL indoor title

The Wheeling girls track and field team has high hopes for the outdoors season ahead, and they were strongly confirmed by the team's performance in the Jim Nagel/Mark Saylor Mid-Suburban League girl track and field indoor invitational on Saturday at North Central College in Naperville.

Wheeling rose to the team championship with 101.5 points, ahead of runner-up Prospect (84) and Barrington (83).

The Wildcats won the 4 x 200 relay in 1:45.8 and had winners in the 400-meter dash (Alexis Knight, 59.11) and in the long jump (Nicole Nguyen, 18-0).

Barrington's Jocelyn Long claimed a distance double, winning the 1,600 in 5:12.10 and the 3,200 in a meet-record 10:58.01.

Fourth-place Palatine got titles from Erin Oleksiak in the 55 hurdles (8.66) and from Jess Streepy in the pole vault (11-3).

Schaumburg's Madison Marasco won the 800 run in a meet-record 2:11.74 and anchored the Saxons' winning 4 x 800 relay (9:28.89).

Buffalo Grove's Nya Carr ran to victory in 55 dash and the 200 dash (25.71).

Rolling Meadows' Macie Robinson won triple jump (34-10), Hersey's Alessia Olhava won the high jump (5-2) and Hoffman Estates' Makiyha Blackwell won shot put (39-8.75). The Hawks also had the winning 4 x 400 relay (4:06.41).
