Water polo: Loyola boys win Palatine tournament; Conant's girls prevail
Loyola Academy finished 4-0 to earn top honors in the boys water polo tournament hosted by Palatine on Friday and Saturday.
The key outcome for the Ramblers was a 10-6 decision against Curie; both teams were 3-0 entering that contest.
The host Pirates finished 0-4, falling 15-6 to Loyola on Saturday morning before dropping a 7-6 decision to Homewood-Flossmoor and a 13-9 decision to McHenry.
• Conant tied St. Charles North 4-4 and suffered losses to both York (7-4) and Glenbrook South (11-7) in the quad hosted by the Cougars.
• Fremd finished 1-2 at Stevenson. The Vikes handled Bremen 16-4, but lost 9-8 in overtime to Niles West and 21-2 against the host Patriots.
• St. Viator topped Chicago Northside 14-9 in the title game of the Jones/Payton tournament. The Lions also defeated Mt. Carmel and Jones/Payton.
Girls water polo
Conant's girls water polo team finished 3-0 in the quad it hosted Saturday.
The Cougars blanked Lake Forest 14-0, topped Lane 6-3 and edged St. Charles East 9-6.
Aly Wooley and Olivia Olszewski led the way with 3 goals apiece against St. Charles East, and Olszewski and Nia Tsoulos both had 2 goals in the win over Lane.
• Niles West finished 3-0 to win top honors at Hoffman Estates. Maine West finished 2-0-1, with the tie coming against Hoffman Estates 6-6. The host Hawks fell to Niles West 9-7 and defeated Vernon Hills 9-3.
