Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 get shootout win

Considering that Patrick Kane has converted on 39 of 97 shootout attempts over his illustrious career, you'd think the Chicago Blackhawks' winger would love seeing games go past overtime.

But you'd be dead wrong.

"I'd rather play 3-on-3 all day," Kane said after registering a goal, an assist and a shootout tally during the Hawks' 3-2 victory Wednesday night over Ottawa at the United Center. "That's more fun for me.

"You see every game we've been in an overtime, it's ending with us winning or losing. Three-on-3's been a great addition to the game."

Anton Forsberg made 32 saves, then stopped 5 of the Senators' 7 shootout attempts as the Hawks (26-27-8) won for just the second time in 11 games. Alex DeBrincat and Nick Schmaltz also converted in the shootout.

Coach Joel Quenneville wasn't pleased with how the Hawks played in overtime as they were outshot 7-4 and also were fortunate that a couple of attempts drew iron.

"Some bells were ringing there for a bit off the post," Quenneville said. "Certainly nice to see the shootout win."

Artem Anisimov scored the Hawks' other goal in regulation at 5:52 of the second period.

Kane leads the team with 23 goals, which is 1 better than DeBrincat. He opened the scoring at 14:19 of the first period after Hinostroza set him up with a perfect drop pass about 25 feet from the net.

"(He) makes a great play just chipping the puck to himself over the guy's stick and then draws two guys with him, (then) drops it back," Kane said. "I think he heard me calling for it. That's what this game is about - speed and creating those 2-on-1s and trying to take advantage."

Hinostroza has 5 assists in the last seven games.

"I like his speed," Quenneville said. "With the puck, he's been good with it as well. More strength, on it, managing it, better decisions with it, and good plays off it. He definitely brings you energy and … he can catch people with that quickness."

The Hawks close out their five-game homestand against San Jose on Friday.
